One of the most troubling problems in recent world theology is the so-called ‘scientific atheism.’ Scientific atheism, which claims to support atheism by appealing to the authority of science, has been around for centuries, but scientific atheism has now come to the public in the twenty-first century. In particular, the coming out of scientific atheism in the Korean society in the early 21st century became an important turning point of the anti-Christian social movement with the increase of social distrust to Korean Christianity. How then can we testify to the faith in God, especially God the Creator, before the challenge of scientific atheism? In this article, I present three strategies for testifying the Christian doctrine of creation before the challenge of scientific atheism. The first is to reflect and overcome the erroneous approach of scientific creationism that is making the same mistakes as scientific atheism does. The second is to reread the Book of Genesis for the scientific age. The third is to re-write the doctrine of creation, or the Christian theology of creation, for the scientific age.

오늘날 한국 교회의 적지 않은 그리스도인들이 과학 시대를 살고 과학기술 문명의 혜택을 누리면서도 과학에 대한 상당한 불신과 오해를 갖고있다. 그 이유 중 대표적인 것이 바로 소위 ‘과학적 무신론’의 등장 때문이다. 하지만 과학이 무신론을 지지한다는 것은 결코 사실이 아니다. 한편 한국 교회 내 ‘창조과학’ 혹은 ‘과학적 창조설’ 운동은 종교적으로 중립적인 과학 이론과 과학의 영역을 넘어선 무신론 이데올로기를 혼동하는 잘못을 더욱 부추기고 있다. 이러한 문제의식에서 필자는 과학 시대 기독교 창조신학이 나아갈 방향과 관련하여 세 가지 전략을 제시하려고 한다. 그 첫 번째는 무신론 과학자들의 도전 앞에서 그들과 동일한 오류를 범하고 있는 창조과학의 잘못된 접근방법을 반성하고 극복하는 것이고, 두 번째는 과학시대를 위해 창세기를 새롭게 읽는 것이고, 세 번째는 과학 시대를 위해 기독교 창조신학 곧 교의학적 창조론을 새롭게 쓰는 것이다.
