Alcohol related problems among university students and adolescents differ from those of chronic alcoholics. Despite the increasing need for assessing alcohol related problems among university students and adolescents, there is a dearth of research on sensitive and reliable measures in Korea. The Rutgers Alcohol Problem Index (RAPI) is an internationally popular measure of alcohol-related problems among university students and adolescents. The current study translated the RAPI and validated the Korean version of the RAPI(K-RAPI). Six hundred and forty-seven university students in Korea completed a packet of self-report questionnaires, including K-RAPI and measures on alcohol related problems and related psychological symptoms. We administered confirmatory factor analysis on K-RAPI with 21 items. Results indicated that unifactor model of K-RAPI fits the sample of Korean university students well. K-RAPI also showed good reliability and validity. These results suggest that K-RAPI is a useful measure in the research and interventions for alcohol related problems among Korean university students and adolescents.

대학생과 청소년에서의 음주문제는 매우 흔히 보고되는 어려움으로, 개인적 차원에서의 학업이나 직업상의 기능저하 및 건강상의 문제뿐만 아니라 지역사회 내에서의 안전사고, 범죄나 성폭력 등 사회적 차원에서의 문제들과도 높은 상관이 있다. 이들에서 발생하는 음주문제는 그 심각성에도 불구하고 만성화된 알코올중 독과 달리 생리적, 심리적 의존증상은 크게 보고되지 않아 기존의 알코올문제 측정도구로는 쉽게 감별되지 않는다는 문제가 있다. 이에 대학생과 청소년에서의 음주문제를 효과적이고 객관적으로 측정할 수 있는 도 구의 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 White와 Labouvie(1989)에 의해 개발된 이후 대학생 및 청소년 집단에 서의 음주문제를 측정하는데 널리 사용되어 온 럿거스 알코올 문제 척도(Rutgers Alcohol Problem Index, RAPI)를 우리말로 번안하고, 국내의 대학생 집단을 대상으로 타당화 하였다. 전국에서 모집된 647명의 대 학생을 대상으로 문항분석을 실시하여, 총 21문항의 한국판 럿거스 알코올 문제 척도(K-RAPI)를 구성하였 다. K-RAPI에 대한 확인적 요인분석 결과, 원척도에서의 단일요인 구조가 우리나라의 대학생 집단에서도 양호한 적합도를 나타내는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 K-RAPI와 음주문제 관련 척도 및 심리적 문제들과 관 련한 척도들과의 상관분석을 통해 타당도를 검증하였으며, 척도의 신뢰도를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, K-RAPI가 적절한 신뢰도와 타당도를 갖추고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 이를 통해 K-RAPI가 우리나라의 대 학생 집단을 비롯한 청소년-대학생 집단에서의 알코올 문제에 대한 연구 및 치료과정에서 유용하게 사용 될 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다.
