The purpose of this study was to explore the images related to injuries and rehabilitation process of college athletes through the Photovioce method. Moreover, it aimed at investigating the meanings of the images and cognitively restructuring the negative images and thoughts into the appropriate ones. College athletes (N=5) were recruited to obtain the purpose of the study and one participant volunteerly dropped out for a personal reason. Following the traditional Photovoice method, the total of five sessions of the program was conducted such as orientation, photo taking, focus group interview(FGI), and member check. To analyze the qualitative data collected during the program, three steps of the analyzing process suggested by Wang & Burris(1997) were implemented. The results were 1) the images of being injured- attribution and falling behind 2) the images of rehabilitation- threatened athlete identity 3) the images of recovering and return to sport. The implications of this was discussed and the direction for following-up research was suggested.

본 연구의 목적은 스포츠상해가 선수들에게 남긴 부상과 재활경험에 대한 이미지를 포토보이스 기법을 통해 찾 아보고, 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 통해 이의 의미를 탐색하는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 상해경험의 이미지 도출 및 자각, 공유과정에서의 인지재구성을 목표로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 대학운동선수 5명을 모집하였고 1명이 중도 탈락 해 총 4명이 최종적으로 연구에 참여하였다. 포토보이스 연구절차에 따라 총 5회기 동안 오리엔테이션, 부상과 재활경 험이 남긴 이미지와 개선방안에 대한 사진촬영, 포커스그룹 인터뷰, 프로그램 총평과 구성원 확인 절차를 실시하였다. Wang & Burris(1997)가 제시한 포토보이스 분석절차에 따라 사진 고르기(selecting), 맥락화(conceptualizing), 주 제화(codifying or categorizing)하기의 세 단계로 자료 분석이 이루어 졌다. 연구결과 1) 부상경험이 남긴 이미지- 귀인과 낙오(부상의 원인과 맥락/분리와 소외) 2) 재활과정이 남긴 이미지- 정체성의 위협 (신체적 제약과 불편함/좌 절과 무기력) 3) 극복과 복귀가 남긴 이미지 (극복과정- 자신감 회복과 사회적 지지/다시 그린 이미지- 인지 재평가) 의 이미지가 도출되었다.
