The current study focuses on what direction of the process in which the actor formalizes the character in a performance will help the actor. As the economy develops, the public are engaged more in cultural activities. When famous Hollywood films open or films starring celebrity actors are released, the theaters are filled with audience members. With this trend, the professional jargons in film and theater have become popularized, with the public more capable of evaluating acting and judging the performance. From black-and-white silent films to glamorous 3D films in the modern era in the midst of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the film technology has advanced greatly, with more developments to come in the future. Even in the possible future in which artificial intelligence rules our societies, the author believes that acting is the only form of art that humans are certain to dominate. While technical and mechanical parts can be replaced with artificial intelligences, but the actor on the screen, that is, the emotions inherent to humans, will be extremely difficult for artificial intelligence to replace. When film technology advances even further in the future, the audience’s requirement and standards for the performance of the actors will be on a much higher level than it is today. Formalizing figures in texts of scenarios, that is, to establish a character, is the process of an actor giving an identity to a flat text character, in addition to breathing in a personality and life. It is the most basic stage of acting, but also the most profound one at the same time. With this in mind, the author of the current study participated in the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of the making of the film “A King Serving the Servant” as the character “Do-jin.” In doing so the author applied knowledge on how the actor establishes a character in a scenario, and how he or she plays the established character in front of the camera. In addition, the author studies and analyzes what methods of formalizing characters in the text are more helpful to the performance of actors, by monitoring the his or her own performance after the scenes were filmed.

본 논문은 배우가 극 중에서 인물을 형상화해나가는 과정이 어떠한 방향으로 진행이 되어야 배우에게 도움이 될 것인가에 중점을 둔다. 오늘날 유명한 영화가 개봉을 하거나, 스타배우가 출연하는 영화가 개봉 하는 날이면 극장은 관객들로 가득차기 마련이다. 이에 따라 영화와 연극의 전문용어들마저도 대중화되었 으며 배우의 연기를 평가하는 기준과 그 안목이 높아지고 있다. 영화의 기술은 많은 발전을 이루었고 앞 으로는 더 큰 발전을 해 나아갈 것이다. 인공지능이 사회를 지배하는 가늠조차 불가능한 미래에서도 분명 인간만이 가져갈 예술은 연기라고 생각을 한다. 기계 기술적인 부분은 인공지능으로 대체가 가능하지만 화면에 나타나는 배우, 즉. 인간만이 나타낼 수 있는 고유한 감정들까지는 인공지능이 대체하기가 힘들다 고 생각이 되기 때문이다. 그렇기에 본 연구자는 이번에 단편영화 <종을 섬기는 왕>에서 동생 ‘도진’ 역할 로 프리 프로덕션(pre-production)부터 프로덕션(production), 포스트프로덕션(post- production) 까지 참여 하면서 처음 시나리오를 받았을 때 배우가 어떻게 캐릭터 구축을 해 나아가야 하는지, 촬영에 들어갔을 때 구축된 캐릭터를 어떻게 연기하게 되는지 접목시켜보았다. 그리고 촬영 후 스스로의 모습을 모니터링 하면서 텍스트속의 인물을 어떠한 방법으로 형성화하는 것이 배우가 연기함에 있어 도움이 되는지 알아 보고 분석한다. 더불어, 단편영화 <종을 섬기는 왕>의 촬영을 통해 다시금 배우에게 있어 캐릭터구축이 연기력과 직접적으로 연관이 되며, 영화의 흐름과 정보전달에 막중한 영향을 미치는 것을 알게 되었다. 따라서 배우에게 캐릭터구축이 가지는 그 가치에 연구 목적과 필요성을 둔다.
