Since the entry of foreigners with laborers focused into Korea in the late 1980s, the number of foreigners staying in Korea amounted to 2.18 million as of December 2017 and 2.37 million as of June 2018. This accounts for around 4.5% of the total population of Korea so we can say that Korea has already entered into the multicultural era. The first factor that led the Republic of Korea to become a multicultural society is the inflow of foreign workers due to economic growth. Second, marriage migrants are on the rise. Third, it is the vitalization of multilateral diplomacy. Fourth, it is the Korean wave impact. Fifth, it is because visa-free entry is allowed. In a multicultural society, the government is making efforts to improve various legal and non-legal systems. In addition, the government keeps expanding support for education and finance for migrants so that they can adapt to the Korean society. On the other hand, Korean churches are not prepared well for the age of multiculturalism, and it seems that their handling of this remains only applied to limited circumstances. Through the New and Old Testaments, God commanded the mission which can be fulfilled in a multicultural society as the essential function of the church. But it is considered that churches fall short of coping with the multicultural society by pursuing a realistic church rather than an ideal one. As a result, this study aims to present the necessity of the church’s role in the Korean society which entered into a multicultural society biblically and to suggest practical plans. As concrete measures, this study claimed that the structure of churches suitable for the multicultural era should have organizations in accordance with the essential function and it is necessary to draw up a budget accordingly. This study also stated that there is a need for education which can change the perception of church members in the multicultural era so that they can play an important role through such perception transition. Finally, as a way for each church to be able to carry out in order to overcome alienation and conflict as well as prejudice and discrimination and to make a healthy society, this study offered four proposals: first, opening the church facilities to the public; second, operating culture classroom; third, invitation feast; and fourth, pastoral visit. Through these, I hope that the Korean church will remember the truth of the cross and the spirit of sowing the seeds of the gospel throughout the peninsula with the spirit of emptying and lowering by the many senior believers and will serve the migrants, leading to a sound multicultural society.

1980년대 후반 노동자를 중심으로 외국인의 국내 유입이 시작된 이래 국내 체류 외국인은 2017년 12월 218만 명, 2018년 6월 237만 여명의 시대가 되었다. 이는 한국 인구의 약 4.5%에 해당되어 우리나라는 다문화 시대로 이미 진입하 였다고 할 수 있다. 대한민국이 다문화 사회로 진입하게 된 요인은 첫째, 경제 성장으로 인한 외국인 근로자 입국이다. 둘째, 결혼 이주민 증가이다. 셋째, 다 자 외교의 활성화이다. 넷째, 한류 영향이다. 다섯째, 무비자 입국 허용이다. 다 문화 사회에서 정부는 다양한 법률적·비법률적 제도 개선에 나서고 있다. 또한 이주민들이 한국 사회에 적응할 수 있도록 교육과 경제 등의 지원을 지속적으 로 확대하고 있다. 이에 반해 한국 교회는 다문화 시대에 대한 준비도 미비하고 대처도 제한적인 상황에 머물러 있다고 여겨진다. 신구약 성경을 통해 하나님 은 교회의 본질적인 기능으로 다문화 사회에서도 감당할 사명을 명하셨으나 이 상적 교회보다는 현실적 교회를 추구하여 다문화 사회에 대처가 미비한 것으로 여겨진다. 이에 본 연구는 이미 다문화 사회로 진입한 한국 사회에서 교회 역할의 필요성을 성경적으로 제시하고 실천적 방안 제안에 그 목적이 있다. 구체적인 방 안으로 다문화 시대에 맞는 교회의 구조가 본질적 기능에 따른 조직을 갖추고 그에 따른 예산 편성의 필요함을 주장했다. 또한 다문화 사회에 교회 구성원 인 식변화를 통해 소금과 빛의 역할을 감당하도록 다문화 시대에 교회 구성원의 인식 전환이 이루어질 수 있는 교육의 필요성을 주장했다. 끝으로 소외와 갈등, 편견과 차별 등을 극복하고 건강한 사회를 위해 교회별로 실시할 수 있는 방안 으로 첫째, 교회 시설 개방, 둘째, 문화 교실 운영, 셋째, 초청 잔치, 넷째, 심방 을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 한국 교회가 수많은 믿음의 선배들이 비움과 낮아짐 정신으로 한 반도 전역에서 십자가 진리와 복음의 씨앗을 뿌린 정신을 기억하 고 이주민들에게 섬김을 실천하여 건강한 다문화 사회가 되기를 소망해 본다.
