This paper aims to analyze Woowon’s sermons from the 1960 to the 60s, based on the sermon critical methodology of Hans Martin Dober in Tübingen. I briefly introduced Woowon Lee Ho-bin’s life in this paper. And In his sermons, I looked for the messages that is valid for us nowadays. Woowon emphasized to transcend earthly desires and discard transmundane faith and Christian selfishness. He also practiced education for the social weak, the poor, and adolescents that could not be educated, in person. Woowon wanted them to be the subject changing the world. Woowon was full of Jesus and the people. He alerted toadyism and stressed independence and self-reliance. Moreover, he looked at the times and the spirit of the times(Weltgeist) objectively as a teacher for the nation and joined the pain of the times. Woowon Lee Ho-bin especially focused on the duty of people believing in Jesus, seeing Korean churches and Korean society of those times. He also argued that Christians should ceaselessly bear critical roles for the society. The side pot of his sermons is that Christians must discard greed and raise their religious and social voices and practice for Korean churches and society. In addition, he exclaimed not to discriminate against people and to raise a leader of the laity through education for the social weak and self-reliance. Christian Universities must surely find their reasons and objectives to exist in Korean society. Kangnam University needs to ruminate over the concept of the right person that Woowon sought and produce the talent to revive Korean churches and Korean society. At the same time, this teaching of Woowon is what Korean churches have to consider deeply.

본 소고는 튀빙겐의 한스 마틴 도버(Hans Martin Dober)의 설교 비평학적 방법론 으로 우원 이호빈 목사의 1950~60년대 설교에서 기념비적인 요소를 찾아보았다. 우 선, 필자는 이 논문에서 우원의 생애를 간략하게 소개하였다. 그리고 그의 설교에서 지금 우리에게 유효한 메시지를 찾고 소개하였다. 우원은 물욕을 초월하고, 피안적인 신앙과 기독교적인 이기심을 버리라고 강조하였다. 그리고 그는 사회적 약자, 가난한 자, 그리고 교육을 받지 못하는 청소년을 위한 교육을 실천하였고, 그들이 세상을 변 화시키는 주체가 되기 원했다. 우원은 예수와 민족으로 충만한 사람이었다. 그는 사대 주의를 경계하고 자주 자립을 강조하였다. 그 또한 민족의 선각자로서 그 시대와 시 대정신(Weltgeist)을 객관적으로 바라보면서 그 시대의 아픔에 동참하였다. 우원 이호 빈 목사는 그 당시의 한국 교회와 한국 사회를 보면서 예수 믿는 사람의 의무를 강조 하였다. 그리고 기독교인이라면 사회에 대한 비평가적 역할을 감당하라고 도전하였다. 그의 설교의 방점은 기독교인은 탐욕을 버리고 한국교회와 사회를 향해서 종교적 사회적인 목소리를 높이고 실천하는 것이다. 그리고 사람을 차별하지 말고 오히려 사회 적 약자에 대한 교육과 자립정신을 통해서 평신도 지도자를 일으켜 세우라고 외쳤다. 기독교 대학교들은 한국사회에서 반드시 존재해야 할 이유와 목적을 찾아야 한다. 이 런 의미에서 강남대학교는 우원이 추구했던 인재상을 다시금 되새기면서 한국교회와 한국사회를 살릴 수 있는 인재를 배출해야 한다. 그리고 동시에 우원의 이런 가르침 은 한국교회가 깊이 생각해야 보아야 할 문제이기도 하다.
