The purpose of this study was to find common contents and classify the psychological experience of police officers after being attacked and injured during official duties, from exploring the qualitative research data of their experiences. To conduct the study, voluntary participation was made by 15 police officers in active service, who had been attacked and injured during official duties. This study performed a phenomenological qualitative analysis based on the written documents of their experience and follow- up interviews. Researchers organized the qualitative research data based on Giorgi's phenomenological research methods using the qualitative research tool NVivo 12.0. Outcomes of the study were derived by repeatedly reading the collected data and discussing the structure of major themes, and sub-themes within the researchers. Next, conclusions were drawn based on cross-validation to assure validity. As a result of this study, there were two major themes: trauma-related symptoms and job burnout symptoms. One of the major themes, trauma-related symptoms include six sub-themes: psychological re-experience, avoidance of similar scenes, a decline in work efficiency, somatization, fear, anxiety along with 59 extracted statements. Job burnout symptoms contain seven sub-themes: anger, insomnia, depression, amotivation, disappointment towards the institution, self-remorse, and a decrease in work efficacy along with 45 extracted statements. Through this procedure, the whole research data was found to be constructed of 12 sub-themes, and 104 extracted statements in total. Based on the results of this study, the discussion dealt with psychological support plans, intervention methods of systematic improvement at the institution level for police officers being attacked and injured during official duties, and policy implication of this study. Lastly, limitations for the study and directions for future research were mentioned.

본 연구의 목적은 공무 중에 피습부상을 경험하게 된 경찰공무원의 공무 중 피습 부상 이후 심리적 경험을 탐색함으로써 질적 자료에서 언급되는 공통 내용을 추출 하여 유목화하는 것이다. 본 연구를 수행하기 위해서 피습부상을 경험한 현직 경찰 공무원 15명이 자발적으로 연구에 참여하였다. 연구 자료로는 피습 경험에 대해 직 접 기술한 질적 자료와 추가 면담자료를 사용하였으며 연구 방법으로 현상학적 질 적 분석(phenomenological qualitative analysis)을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 연구진들은 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법을 기초로 NVivo 12.0을 사용하여 질적 자료를 정리하 였다. 연구결과를 도출하기 위해서 연구자들은 모든 연구 자료를 반복적으로 읽고, 논의를 통해 상위구성요소와 하위구성요소를 도출하였다. 이후 본 연구결과의 타당 성을 확인하기 위하여 연구자간 교차검증을 실시한 내용을 바탕으로 결론을 도출하 였다. 연구 결과, 연구 자료에서 외상과 관련된 증상, 직무소진으로 인한 증상 총 2 개의 상위구성개념을 추출하였다. 외상과 관련된 증상에는 심리적 재경험, 유사장면 회피, 업무위축, 신체화, 두려움, 불안을 포함한 6개 하위구성요소와 59개의 요약문 이 포함되었으며, 직무소진으로 인한 증상에는 분노, 불면, 우울, 의욕상실, 조직에 대한 실망, 자신에 대한 자책감, 자신감 저하로 총 6개의 하위구성요소와 45개의 요 약문이 포함되어 질적 자료 전체는 총 12개의 하위구성요소와 104개의 요약문을 포 함하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 논의에서는 피습으로 공상을 입은 경찰공 무원들의 회복을 돕기 위한 심리적 지원과 조직 차원의 제도개선과 관련된 개입방 법을 제시하였으며, 본 연구의 정책적 함의를 논의하였다. 마지막으로, 본 연구의 제 한점을 서술하고 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 논하였다.
