This study shows tap water quality difference between Xi’an and Seoul, based on our empirical data of Xi’an and Seoul tap water samples. It is true that using TDS alone for comparison of tap water quality is a bit problematic. But based on various preceding researches and worldwide tap water quality standard, we thought that TDS somewhat can act as water quality index. For comparison, we use methodology called Welch’s t-test, and the test result shows that TDS of Xi’an downtown is lower than TDS of Seoul. Meanwhile there are great spatial difference of TDS in Xi’an suburb, and the reason for this we thought is because in some places, tap water is supplied from adjacent ground water.

본 연구는 중국 시안과 서울의 수돗물 샘플을 채취하여 TDS 값을 측정하였고, 이를 통해 시안과 서울의 수 돗물 수질 차이를 분석하였다. 수질을 비교함에 있어 TDS가 단독으로 사용되면 다소 문제가 있을 수 있지만, 여러 선행연구들의 결과와 국제적인 수돗물 수질 기준을 참고하였을 때 수질 지표로써 어느 정도 역할을 한다고 판단하 였다. 비교의 과정에 있어서는 Welch’s t-test를 활용하였고, 검정 결과 시안 시내 수돗물의 TDS 값이 서울 수돗물 의 TDS 값보다 더 낮은 것으로 밝혀졌다. 한편 시안 시내 외부 수돗물의 TDS 값은 공간적으로 그 변이가 컸는데, 그 이유는 일부 수도꼭지에서 수돗물이 아닌 인근의 지하수를 그대로 사용하기 때문으로 보인다.
