Having plenty of historical heritages to offer, the tourism industry in Xian has been much supported by the Chinese government these days. Most of the study on this topic of tourism in Xian were done by native Chinese researchers, suggesting macroscopic solutions regarding policy and development plans. This study observes Xian from the view of individual foreign travelers, which are the type of tourists increasing most in the modern world, and analyzes the city’s problems. From the observation, it can be concluded that Xian is not in lack of the amount of tour contents, but inconvenient infrastructure in general and Chinese regulations on the use of Internet are the impeding factors of pleasant travel experience in Xian. This study suggests that Xian make an improvement starting from short-term and practical means such as correcting English errors on signs, renovating the official tourism website, and using SNS for marketing- and after this step Xian could move on to long-term, more fundamental solutions.

중국 서안은 과거 여러 왕조의 자취가 남아있어 풍부한 역사유적과 문화유산을 보유하고 있는 도시이다. 이에 따라 중국 정부는 시안을 중국의 대표적인 관광 도시로 만들기 위해 노력을 기울여왔다. 그동안 서안의 관광 산업을 주제로 진행되어온 연구는 대부분 중국 현지인의 입장에서 바라봐 정책이나 관광상품 개발, 마케팅 등 거시 적인 해결방안을 내놓았으나, 본 연구는 현대 사회에서 가장 급증하는 관광객의 유형인 외국인 개별 관광객의 시점 에서 경험한 서안 지역을 바탕으로 서안관광의 실질적인 문제점을 파악하고자 하였다. 분석 결과 서안의 관광 콘텐 츠의 양은 풍부하며 전반적으로 관광경험을 뒷받침해주는 언어와 교통 등의 기본 인프라 문제와 중국의 인터넷 규 제로 인한 정보와 마케팅 미흡이 만족도를 떨어뜨리는 요인들이었다. 따라서 본 연구는 외국인 자유여행객을 위한 표지판 오역 수정 및 온라인 정보제공 개선 등 단기간에 해결할 수 있는 부분들에 우선적으로 착수할 것을 제안한다.
