Huimin are one of the ethnic minorities of China that believe in Islam. Their ancestors are merchants who came from Arabia or Persia and settled down in China during the Tang Dynasty. Muslim Street in Xian is the place where Huimin live together and do their businesses. In the Muslim Street, there is a Mosque. This paper is about acculturation of Islam culture and Chinese culture, focusing on Muslim Street and the Mosque. According to the research through a literature review and fieldwork, Muslim Street is an open space, while the Mosque is a closed space. It means that, on the one hand, the former is open to outsiders as a tourist attraction. On the other hand, the latter is not for an interactions with the outside world, but for protection of their cultural and religious identities. In short, by looking into Muslim Street and the Mosque, it can be inferred that Huimin have chosen to be integrated into Chinese culture, keeping their Islamic traditions.

회족은 이슬람교를 믿는 중국의 소수민족들 중 하나로, 그들의 조상은 실크로드를 따라 중국에 건너와 교 역하다가 중국에 정착한 아라비아 또는 페르시아 상인들이다. 중국 서북지역의 시안에는 회족들이 모여 살고 상업 활동을 하는 회민거리가 있고, 회민거리 내에는 청진사라는 이슬람 사원이 있다. 본고는 시안 회민거리와 청진사 의 건축양식을 중심으로 이슬람 문화와 중국문화의 만남에 대해 살펴본다. 문헌조사와 현장답사를 통해 도출한 바 에 따르면, 회민거리는 열린 공간이고 청진사는 닫힌 공간이다. 즉, 전자는 시안의 관광명소로서 외부인들의 접근 이 쉽고 상업화된 공간인 반면, 후자는 외부 세계와의 교류가 아니라 회족의 문화 및 종교적 정체성을 보존하기 위 한 공간인 것이다. 요약하면, 시안의 회민거리와 청진사의 건축양식에서 확인할 수 있듯, 회족은 고유의 이슬람 문 화를 지킴과 동시에 중국 문화를 받아들이는 전략적 선택을 해왔다.
