This paper aims to answer the question whether Ludwig Erhard was ‘a bad European’, who opposed to the European Integration. It is true that Erhard was an important critic and opponent of the chancellor Adenauer's european politics in the 1950s. He wanted a greater Europe than a Europe of Six and favored the functional integration of Europe. He wasn't against European integration itself. As a chancellor of West Germany, Erhard's European politics, which aimed to create the european political union, was unsuccessful. Above all, Erhard could not carry out his plan because of de Gaulle's european politics. Though Erhard's european politics failed without concrete results, his efforts for european integration were something serious. Therefore, the view that Erhard was a bad European should be revised.
