This paper belongs to the various studies which investigate the intrinsic meaning of film text. Especially it searches for the possibile answer to the question how digital technology changes the meaning of film text. Since the beginning of the film as a technique, many scholars discussed the nature of film in terms of the language and communication. The structuralist approach seemed to be successful to explain the film as a kind of structural text. But the problems arise when it overlooks the latent dimension of the film in which the specific technique operates to generate the text in the manifest level. To understand the digital technology and its impact on the film in general, the different concept of text is inevitable. This paper suggests in this context, the concept of media, which is constructed in terms of constructivism and system theory.

본 논문은 언어와 소통으로서 영화의 의미에 대해 고찰하는 여러 연구들 가운데 하나이며, 특히 디지털 기술의 도입으로 새로운 국면을 맞이하게 된 영화에 대해 이론적으로 탐구하는 것이 목적이다. 19세기 말 영화의 탄생 이후, 많은 이론가들은 영화의 본질적인 의미를 고찰하였는데, 특히 20세기 중반부터 영화는 구조주의의 관점에서 텍스트의 일종으로 생각되었다. 그러나 이러한 연구의 방향은 기술과 관련 된 영화의 심층적 의미에 대해 간과하는 결과를 초래하였다. 그것으로 디지털 기술의 도입으로 인한 변화를 설명하기에는 부족하다. 반면에 미디어로 규정하면, 영화가 의미생산의 작용을 위해 활용되는 기술적 차원이 고려될 수 있다. 이러한 새로운 규정에서 비로소 디지털 기술의 도입으로 변화되는 영화의 의미를 이해할 수 있다. 특히 본 논문은 체계이론의 도움으로 영화 미디어에 대한 개념을 정립한 이후, 그것 을 디지털 영화에 적용하는 방식으로 뉴미디어 시대의 영화의 의미를 설명하였다.
