Leisure, or free time, is time spent away from business, work, and domestic chores. It is also the periods of time before or after necessary activities such as eating, sleeping, attending school, and doing homework. Capitalist societies often view active leisure activities positively, because active leisure activities require the purchase of equipment and services, which stimulates the economy. This paper is a comparative analysis of the frequency of activities in free time and its causality to sentiment of self and relationships with other people among Korea, Taiwan and Japan. To do this, by using data set collected from 2007 ISSP(International Social Survey Program) modules. Activities in free time was composed with watch TV, go to the movies, go out shopping, read books, attend cultural events, get together with relatives, get together with friends, play cards or board games, listen to music, sports, attend sporting events as a spectator, do handicrafts, and spend time on the internet. Take part in sports variables applies pari passu to both sentiment on self and strengthen relationships with other people in Korea, Taiwan and Japan.

이 연구는 자유시간 여가활동에 대해 한국·대만·일본 비교를 중심으로 자유시간 여가활동 현황과 이들이 실체감 인식과 관계 강화 인식에 미치는 영향을 분석해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 실체감 인식과 관계 강화 인식을 종속변수로 설정하 고, TV 시청 등 13개 자유시간 여가활동을 독립변수로 설정하여 3개 국가(지역)의 자유시간 여가활동 특성과 이들 여가활동 변인들이 실체감 인식과 관계 강화 인식 에 미치는 인과관계를 비교 분석해 보았다. 분석결과를 보면 알 수 있듯이 한국·대 만·일본의 자유시간 여가활동 현황은 공통점과차이점을 모두 보여주고 있었다. 그 리고 자유시간 여가활동이 실체감 인식과 관계 강화 인식에 미치는 인과관계 또한 공통점과 차이점을 분명히 보여주고 있었다. 이들 공통점과 차이점은 이들 3개 국 가(지역)에서 형성되어 있는 문화적·사회적·경제적 환경을 반영하고 있을 것이다. 앞으로 이에 대한 보다 정밀한 분석을 통하여 얻게 되는 결과들을 통하여 이들 지 역에서 형성되는 사회적 환경을 보다 정확하게 이해하고 이들 지역에서의 발전적 협력을 강구하는데 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이라 본다.
