The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the organization for facilitating economic cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC has 21 economies as a member, such as USA, China, Japan, Russia, and Korea. In every year Economic Leader's Meeting, Ministerial Meeting, Senior officials Meeting, and various kinds of meetings in private sector has been held. Economic meeting of APEC consists of APEC Business Advisory Council(ABAC) and CEO Summit, which is aimed for increasing participation of private sector in APEC. While ABAC is the formal advisory council, which participate the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting and provide opinions of businessmen, CEO Summit is the forum for exchanging information and friendship between businessmen in this region. Effects of economic meetings in APEC are limited for Busan area, because they are concerned about issues on national level. However, economic meetings in Busan still have significant effects on globalization of Busan regional industries, internationalization of Busan City Hall and related governmental agencies, capability growth of Busan citizen, and increasing global competitiveness of regional firms. Thus various kinds of small meetings and events have to be prepared for effect maximization of APEC in Busan area.

APEC은 아시아ㆍ태평양지역 경제 협력체로서, 역내 회원국 간의 경제협력 을 강화하기 위한 경제협력기구이다. 우리나라를 비롯하여 미국, 일본, 중국, 러시아 등 아시아 태평양지역 21개국이 참가하여 매년 정상회의, 장관급 회담을 비롯한 정부간 회의 및 경제관련 회의와 다양한 민간부문 회의를 개최하고 있 다. APEC의 경제관련 회의는 경제인 자문위원회(ABAC)와 최고경영자회의 (CEO Summit)로 구성되어 있으며, 아시아ㆍ태평양지역 경제 통합체 형성에 민간 부분의 참여를 확대하기 위해 구성되었다. 경제인 자문위원회는 정상회의 기간 중 정상들과의 회동을 통해 APEC 역내 기업인들의 관심사항과 건의사항을 전달하는 공식자문기구이며, 최고경영자회의는 역내 기업인들 간 정보 및 친분 을 교환하는 포럼 형태를 띠고 있다. APEC 경제관련 회의는 주로 국가적 수준에서의 주요 이슈들을 다루고 있기 때문에 부산지역 경제에 미치는 영향은 미미할 수밖에 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 부산 APEC은 부산지역산업의 글로벌화 증진, 부산시청 및 유관기관의 국제화 촉진, 부산시민의 역량 성숙, 그리고 지역 기업들의 국제경쟁력을 강화시키는 계 기가 될 것이다. 따라서 이를 극대화시킬 수 있는 실질적인 대책들이 강구되어야 할 것이다.
