The purpose of this study is to propose such a comprehensive model of biblical forgiveness by diachronically inspecting the concept through a redemptive-historical lens. Viewing the topic from a synchronic perspective, rather than a diachronic will show that the revelation of sin, covenant, redemption and law have been organically and progressively developed through biblical history in the context of the meta-narrative of creation, fall, redemption, and consummation. A redemptive-historical view reveals diverse forms of forgiveness according to different contexts; divine forgiveness which refers to God’s forgiveness of sinners and human forgiveness which refers to a human victim’s forgiveness of a perpetrator. The argument of this paper is that the revelation of forgiveness in the Bible has developed through redemptive history with shifts in emphasis (1) from divine to human forgiveness, (2) from a conditional to unconditional offer of forgiveness, (3) from justicefocused to love-focused forgiveness, and (4) from the offender’s responsibility to repent to the victim’s willingness to forgive, until divine forgiveness is finally revealed through Jesus Christ (Rom 5:8-11). Because biblical forgiveness - both divine and human - is built upon the revelation of each prior stage, its development should not be overlooked or reduced to the form of only one of the stages.

본 연구의 목적은 성경적 용서를 구속사적 관점에서 통시적으로 봄 으로써, 성경적 용서에 대한 통합적인 이해에 도달하는 것이다. 구속사 적 관점으로 시선을 옮길 때, 죄, 율법, 언약 같은 성경 계시가 창조-타 락-구속-완성이라는 거대한 이야기 속에서 시간이 지남에 따라 유기 적으로 조금씩 발전되었음을 보게 된다. 유기적 발전이라 함은 초기 형 태와 마지막 형태가 서로 다른 모양이라 할지라도 본질적으로 완전히 동일한 성격의 계시라는 것과, 초기 형태가 비록 원시적이라 할지라도 구속사의 그 해당 발전단계에 적합한 완전한 계시라는 것, 그리고 최종 적 형태의 계시는 그 이전단계의 모든 형태를 내포하는 계시라는 것을 함축하고 있다. 정경은 구속사적 관점에서의 용서의 계시 또한 다양한 상황 속에서 점진적으로 발전되었다는 것과, 그 정경의 발전과 함께 정 경을 받은 하나님의 백성에게 요구되는 용서의 의무 또한 확장되었음 을 보여주고 있다. 성경은 용서에 대한 계시가 신적 용서에서 인간용서 로, 조건적 용서에서 무조건적 용서로, 공의 중심에서 사랑 중심으로, 가해자의 회개의 책임에서 피해자의 용서의 책임으로 이전 것을 토대로 점차 발전되었음을 보여준다. 이처럼 성경적인 용서가 이전 단계의 계시를 자양분 삼아 발전해 왔기 때문에, 성경적 용서의 개념을 어떤 한 단계에만 고착하거나 환원하는 대신, 용서의 완전한 구현 되시는 예 수님을 통한 최종계시를 중심으로 이전단계의 용서 개념을 포괄하여 통합적으로 이해해야 할 것이다.
