This paper examined how to understand the emergence of 'Artificial Intelligence Classical Translation which is emerging recently from the perspective of Korean classical translator. In order to approach this research, the paper was divided into three period. The first period is from the time when Korean classical translation began to be modernized to the time before Korean classical Chinese was computerized. The second period was from the time when Korean classics began to be computerized until the introduction of Korean classical translator based on artificial intelligence. And the third period is after the emergence of Korean classical translation based on artificial intelligence. Before the classical computerization, researchers who translated Korean classics translated classics mainly using tool books. The tool book includes dictionary related to classical books from various institutions, dictionary of various words related to names and names of people, and various indexes prepared in classical editing process or translation process. However, since the Korean classics have been computerized, all of these tools have become searchable on the computer. Therefore, the researchers who translate Korean classics translated their classics by using computerized DB instead of classical ones, carrying a dictionary of person. In addition, computerized DB includes texts and images of nuclear power plants in addition to tool books, so researchers can search for desired materials and use them for translation. The classical translation work based on artificial intelligence is a program that searches the computerized DB by itself and provides various information. Therefore, researchers who translate Korean classical works will rework the translation with the results extracted by a program designed based on artificial intelligence. When such artificial intelligence Korean classical translation work is started in earnest, I think that the work of translating Korean classical classics will become more advanced.

본고에서는 한국고전번역사의 입장에서 최근 대두되고 있는 ‘인공 지능 고전번역기’의 출현을 어떻게 이해해야 하는지를 고찰하였다. 그리고 이 연구에 접근하기 위하여 한국고전번역학의 역사를 한문 고전을 현대적 방식으로 번역하기 시작한 시기부터 한문 고전이 전산화되기 이전까지, 한문 고전이 전산화되기 시작한 이후부터 인공 지능에 기반한 한문 고전 번역기가 출현하기 이전까지, 인공 지능에 기반한 한문 고전 번역기가 출현한 이후, 크게 3개의 시기로 구분하였다. 고전의 전산화가 이루어지기 이전 시기에는 한문 고전을 번역하는 연구자들은 주로 공구서를 활용하여 고전을 번역하였다. 그 공구서는 각 기관에서 나온 고전 관련 목록집과 해제집, 한자 사전과 한자 어휘 사전, 인명과 지명 등에 관련된 각종 주제어 사전, 그리고 고전 정리 과정 또는 번역 과정에서 작성된 여러 가지 색인 등이 이에 해당한다. 하지만 한문 고전이 전산화된 이후로 이러한 공구서들은 모두 컴퓨터 상에서 검색이 가능해졌다. 그래서 한문 고전을 번역하는 연구자들은 몸소 사전을 지니고 다니며 고전을 번역하기 보다는 전산화된 DB를 이용하여 고전을 번역하였다. 그리고 전산화된 DB에는 공구서 이외에도 원전에 대한 텍스트와 이미지가 함께 제공되는 경우가 많아서 연구자들이 자신들이 원하는 자료를 검색하여 번역에 활용하게 되었다. 인공 지능에 기반한 고전 번역 작업은 전산화된 DB를 프로그램이 자체적으로 검색하여 다양한 정보를 제공해 주는 것이다. 그래서 한문 고전을 번역하는 연구자들은 인공 지능에 기반하여 설계된 프로그램이 추출해낸 결과를 가지고 번역을 재가공하는 작업을 하게 된다. 이러한 인공 지능 한문 고전 번역 작업이 본격적으로 시작되게 되면 한문 고전을 번역하는 작업이 보다 고도화될 것으로 생각된다.
