The purpose of this paper is to examine the psychological process and cause of how Su-woon Choi Je-woo, who appeared in the “Mong-jung-noso- mun-dap-ga (A song of dialogue between the old man and a boy in the dream)” becomes the founder of Dong-hak as who gained absolute support from the late Joseon Dynasty. The research method is done in two different formats: in the first chapter, I will track the human aspect through the verses of “Mong-jung-no-so-mun-dap-ga.” In the second chapter, I am going to analyze the heroization process of Choi Je-woo even though he had a huge human shadow as an illegitimate child through Jung's methodology. The content of this study illuminates psycho-religiously the new birth of Su-woon. First, I examine the social situation of Su-woon, who was born as a socially helpless an illegitimate child. The second is how he became the founder of Dong-hak, who led the late Joseon Dynasty despite his social obstacle. At this time, I will examine his psychological rebirth through the process of Individuation of Jung. The results of this study are to find out how founder of Dong-hak, which is the core of the 19th century religious movement as a Korean ethnic religion, was born. First, I look at the elements of darkness and light that Choi Jae-woo had given him. Secondly, I found that how the dark shadow that Choi had was able to resonate with the pain of the people of the Joseon Dynasty. Therefore, the religious psychology revealed the significance of the agony of the first major teacher who responded to the request of the late Joseon Dynasty.

이 논문은 ‘몽중노소문답가(夢中老少問答歌)’를 통해 수운 최제우가 어떻게 서 자의 신분에서 조선후기 대중들의 절대적 지지를 얻은 동학의 제1대 교조로 변모하게 되는지 그 심리적 과정과 원인을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법은 1장과 2장에서 형식을 달리하며 이루어지는데 먼저 1장에서는 ‘몽중노 소문답가(夢中老少問答歌)’에 드러난 시구(詩句)를 통해 수운의 인간적인 면모들을 추적해 보았다. 그리고 2장에서는 수운이 이러한 인간적 그림자를 딛고 어떻 게 교조로 탄생할 수 있었는지 융의 방법론에 의거해 분석하고자 했다. 이 연구의 내용에서는 수운이 종교적으로 새롭게 탄생하게 된 배경과 자세 한 내용을 종교심리학적으로 조명한다. 첫째로는 사회적으로 무기력한 서자 의 신분으로 태어난 수운의 처지를 살펴본다. 둘째로 그가 어떻게 이러한 사 회적 장애물을 딛고 조선후기를 이끌었던 동학의 창시자가 되었는지를 알아 본다. 이때 수운의 심리적 재탄생을 융의 개성화 과정을 통해 구체적으로 살 펴본다. 이러한 과정을 통해 이 연구는 결과적으로 한국 민족종교로서 19세기 종교 운동의 핵심이 되는 동학의 1대 교조가 어떻게 탄생하게 되었는지 또한 그 의미는 무엇인지 고찰하는데 의의를 둔다. 첫 번째, 최제우가 지녔던 서자라는 신분이 그에게 준 어둠과 빛의 요소를 살펴본다. 두 번째, 최제우가 지녔던 어 두운 그림자가 어떻게 조선 시대 사람들의 아픔과 공명할 수 있었는지를 알 아본다. 그럼으로써 당시 혼란스러웠던 조선 후기의 시대적 요청에 부응했던 동학 제1대 교조의 고뇌와 의의를 종교심리학적으로 밝혀낸다.
