The Purpose of this study is to set up the concept of the Event Archives in collecting, managing, and using the event records, because it needs to manage them in another way which connote a variety of interpretations. By contemplating sociological theory about the event, it is study that draws a definition, constituents, and feature of the Event Archives, and applies these to a case, Donghak Peasant Revolution Foundation collecting, managing, and using the records in Korea internally using methodologies: content analysis, indepth interview, and participant observation. In this study, first, the Event Archives is defined, and established 3 constituents, i.e. person, space, and time, each having levels of various interpretations. So the Event Archives’ user can encounter various interpretations about the event through the records. And its feature is deduced as mediation and diversity. Second, by analyzing a case, this study compares a case and a concept. The result of this study is to figure out that the Foundation has the feature of the Event Archives: mediation and diversity, so prove its concept. I hope this study contributes to the academic world as follows. First, a small scale museum, archives, or memorial hall collecting and managing the records will establish their own identify and an obvious reference point on collecting the records. Second, the Event Archives will make mutual exchange among the persons concerned and observers, especially researchers. And this will make ‘Narrative Truth’ to rise to the public.

이 연구의 목적은 사건 기록물을 수집·관리·활용함에 있어 다양한 해석 을 담고 있는 기록물의 특성 상 기존과 다른 방법으로 관리해야 할 필요에 입 각하여 사건 아카이브의 개념을 정립하는 것이다. 이에 대한 연구 방법은 사 건에 관한 사회학적 이론을 고찰함으로써 사건 아카이브의 정의와 요소, 특성 을 도출하고, 국내에 사건 기록물을 수집·관리·활용하고 있는 동학농민혁 명기념재단을 사례로 선정하여 내용분석과 심층면담, 참여관찰 방법을 사용 하여 이론으로 정립한 사건 아카이브의 개념을 적용한다. 이 연구의 내용은 첫 번째, 사건 아카이브를 정의하고 인물, 공간, 시간으로 구성요소를 설정하였다. 각 요소에는 다양한 해석의 층위가 존재하고 있어 사건 아카이브를 이용하는 이용자는 사건 기록물을 통해 사건에 대한 다양한 해석을 접할 수 있다. 또한 사건 아카이브의 특성으로 중재성과 다양성을 도 출하였다. 두 번째는 사례 대상기관을 분석하여 사건 아카이브의 개념과 비교하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 기념재단이 사건 아카이브의 특성인 중재성과 다양성을 지니고 있음을 확인하여 사건 아카이브의 개념을 입증하였다. 이 연구가 학 계에 다음과 같이 기여하기를 기대한다. 첫 번째는 사건 아카이브의 이론적 고찰을 통해 현재 사건 기록물을 수집·관리하는 소규모의 박물관이나 기록 관 및 기념관 등의 정체성을 확립함과 동시에 기록물의 수집에 있어 명확한 기준점을 제공하기를 기대한다. 두 번째는 사건 기록물의 수집·관리·활용 을 전담하는 사건 아카이브의 존재가 사건의 행위자와 피행위자 및 사건을 연 구하는 학자 등 관찰자 간의 활발한 교류로 이어지고, 사건을 바라보는 다양 한 시각을 통해 사회에 점차 용인되어가는 사건의 서사적 진실이 대두될 수 있기를 기대한다.
