In this paper, I will revisit Murdoch's understanding and theorization of love situated within her metaphysical, realist thought. The upshot of this paper is that love can and should be reclaimed as a hermeneutical principle for a new orientation and a re-education of human desires. In engaging with Murdoch's thought, I delve into the reality of the void, insofar as the void caused by the corporate and individual expressions of evil in modern and late modern world is often-times filled in by egoistic fantasies and distorted perceptions about the world. Given this reality of the void, I argue that love in the face of the void contributes for the transformation of human desires as a spiritual discipline by reclaiming the idea of the Good, inner life, and true consolation situated within Murdoch's metaphysical, realist thought. I envisage here an ethic of love and its pedagogical vision to see self, others, and the world truthfully and responsibly in our contemporary context.
