The aim of this study was to provide a more detailed understanding of the effects of childhood emotional trauma by examing whether emotional trauma experienced during childhood influences interpersonal problmes in the emerging adulthood and social self-concept mediates their relationship. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 302 college students at the admission stage for adulthood using a questionnaire of emotional trauma, social self-concept, and interpersonal problems. The relationships of these variables was examined by applying a structural equation modeling. As a result, the experience of childhood emotional abuse was found to be a risk factor for the increase of compliant interpersonal problem, aggressive interpersonal problem, and detached interpersonal problem and the relationship between them is mediated by negative social self-concept. On the other hand, childhood emotional neglect showed only a direct effect on dependent interpersonal problem. And emotional abuse and emotional neglect had mutual inhibitory effects. Finally, clinical implications and limitations were discussed based on the main results of this study.

본 연구는 아동기에 경험한 정서적 외상이 성인 진입기의 대인관계 문제에 영향을 미치는지 확인하고 이들 간의 관계를 부정적인 사회적 자기개념이 매개하는지를 검증함으로써 아동기 외상의 영향에 대한 보다 구체적인 이해를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 성인 진입기에 있는 대학생 302명을 대상으로 정서적 외상, 부정적인 사회적 자기개념, 대인관계 문제에 대한 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 구조방정식 모형을 적용하여 변수들 간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 아동기 정서적 학대 경험은 성인 진입기의 순응형 대인관계 문제, 공격형 대인관계 문제, 고립형 대인관계 문제를 모두 증가시키는 위험 요인으로 작용함이 확인되었으며, 이들 간의 관계를 부정적인 사회적 자기개념이 매개하는것으로 나타났다. 반면, 아동기 정서적 방임은 순응형 대인관계 문제에 대한 직접 효과만을 보였다. 또한, 정서적 학대와 정서적 방임이 상호 간에 억제 효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 본 연구의 주요 결과를 바탕으로 임상적 함의와 제한점을 논의하였다.
