The purpose of this study is to define teacher’s major roles when they design curriculum plan in the church. Definition of curriculum and difference between curriculum and curriculum plan are explained first. When churches plan to change their curriculum or design curriculum plan, objective, scope, content, learners, and methods should be considered and teachers have important roles in these five areas. First, a teacher should know both objectives of the curriculum and clear purposes and objectives for Christian education in the church, so that they can evaluate the objectives of the church can be fulfilled effectively through the curriculum. Also, the personal philosophies of the teacher should agree with them. Second, teachers should define the scope and content of the curriculum. Scope means what learners will be taught through the curriculum. It can be wide enough to study all the Bible or can be narrow so that only one subject will be studied in the class. Third, teachers should know learners and learning methods. Teachers should recognize the learner’s thought, concept, circumstances, and learning style so that teachers will design an effective curriculum. Choosing a curriculum should be started with knowing learners. Last, teachers should recognize that they are the most important curriculum resource and try to develop themselves continually. A teacher is one of the most important factors in Christian education. It is explained what teachers should do in choosing a curriculum in the church and reminded teachers themselves are the most important factor in curriculum design through this study.

이 연구의 목적은 교회 내 교육의 커리큘럼을 구성할 때, 교사가 담 당해야 하는 중요한 역할이 무엇인지 정의하기 위함이다. 우선 커리큘 럼이 무엇인가에 대해 간단한 정의를 하였으며 커리큘럼과 커리큘럼 계획의 차이에 대하여 설명하였다. 무엇보다 커리큘럼 계획을 세우게 될 때 크게 목적, 범위, 내용, 학습자 그리고 방법을 고려하게 되는데 교사는 이 다섯 가지 영역에서 중요한 역할을 감당하게 된다. 첫째로 교사는 교회 기독교 교육 과정의 목적이 무엇인지 정확히 알고 있어야 하며 커리큘럼 과정이 이 목적을 채워줄 수 있는가에 대해 평가를 할 수 있어야 한다. 또한, 교사 개인의 철학 역시 이 커리큘럼의 목표에 동 의할 수 있는지 알아야 한다. 둘째로, 교사는 커리큘럼이 다룰 내용에 대한 범위를 정리할 수 있어야 한다. 범위라는 것은 교육 과정을 통해 얼마만큼 가르칠 것인가에 대한 것인데 성경에 대한 모든 것을 다룰 만 큼 광범위해질 수도 있고 한 가지 주제로 한 수업만 가능하도록 좁아질 수도 있다. 셋째로, 교사는 학습자와 교수 방법론을 잘 알고 있어야 한 다. 학습자가 가진 생각과 개념, 환경과 선호하는 교수 방법 등을 교사 는 알고 있어야 하며 이것이 커리큘럼 계획을 세우는데 중요한 요소 중 하나다. 커리큘럼을 고르고 실행할 때 학습자의 여러 가지 특징들을 고 려하며 시작해야 한다. 마지막으로, 가장 중요한 커리큘럼의 요소는 바로 교사 자신이라는 것을 인식해야 하며 교사는 꾸준하게 자기 자신을 발전시키기 위한 노력을 해야 한다. 이 연구를 통하여 교회 교육의 가장 중요한 요소라고 할 수 있는 교사가 커리큘럼의 선택과 적용에 어떤 역 할을 하고 있는지 설명하였으며 교사 자신이 가장 중요한 커리큘럼의 요소임을 강조하고 상기시킴으로 마무리하였다.
