Sex, gambling and cigarette related issues have been a highlight of our contemporaries. Tasan, representative scholar in the late period of Joseon Dynasty, left a lot of academic achievements, and it would be considered that Tasan’s view could provide implications related present Sex, gambling and cigarette related issues. Tasan expressed negative views about the promiscuous and disorderly sexual attitude. Tasan thought to be sexually promiscuous be followed by various evils. It destroys and ruins ourselves, and it makes a mess of the important things. Promiscuous persons incur grudge or ridicule of others. For solving the promiscuous and disorderly sexual attitude related problem, Tasan provided the following ideas. Tasan hinted not only external solutions but also internal strategies. On the external solutions side, Tasan thought it needed strengthen disciplines, and exercise control techniques. On the internal strategies side, Tasan hinted it needed build positive self-images, and effort of self reflections or scrutinies. Tasan’s two-pronged (both the external and the internal) approach can be proposed with regard to present promiscuous and disorderly sexual problems. Also, Tasan stood firm with gambling issues. Tasan expressed negative views about gambling. Tasan thought gambling destroys and ruins ourselves, ruins fortune of persons. Regarding cigarette, Tasan described as objects of plundering or incentives. On the one hand, cigarette was described as symbolic icon, being emblematic of frank and fresh lives. This study has a lot of limitations, but it has academic contributions and meaningfulness considering to construct the base of future studies, despite lack of related research. It's expected related future studies will be followed.

중독은 현대사회의 큰 문제이며, 특히 성(性) 중독이나 도박 중독, 담배로 인한 문제 등과 관련하여 관심이 증대하고 있다. 조선후기의 대표적 지식인이자 학자인 다산(茶山) 정약용이 성을 바라보는 관점, 노름을 대하는 시각, 담배에 관련한 언급들 등을 고찰해보는 것은 오늘 날에 이러한 문제를 둘러싼 논의를 진전시키는 데 시사점을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 다산은 기생과 관련하여 극히 예외적으로 허용적인 일면을 보이기도 하였으나, 혼외의 문 란한 성 문제를 대체로 부정적으로 보았다. 전형적인 일탈로 취급하는 한편, 스스로를 해지는 행위로 보기도 하였으며, 판단력을 잃고 일을 그르치게 하는 원인으로도 보았다. 목민관이 음 란에 젖으면 원망이나 비웃음을 사므로 반드시 주의해야 함을 경계하였다. 이러한 문제 극복 을 위한 다양한 암시도 제시하고 있다. 엄격한 규율이나 통제 시스템의 활용뿐 아니라, 개인 의 긍정적인 자아관념 형성 노력, 스스로의 끊임없는 자각이나 각성 노력, 아예 문제의 근원 을 뿌리 뽑겠다는 강한 의지 등도 아울러 필요하다고 본 다산이다. 외적 요인의 개선과 내적 요인의 수련이 동시에 필요하다는 시선은 현대에도 여전히 시사점을 준다. 도박에 대해서도 단호한 시각을 확인할 수 있었다. 전형적인 금지행위이자 일탈로 보았으 며, 스스로를 망치고 인생과 재산을 낭비하게 되는 한심한 일로 묘사하며, 엄격히 자제할 것 을 당부하였다. 담배와 관련하여서는 수탈의 대상이 되거나 격려･보답품으로의 쓰임을 언급 하기도 하였으며, 한편으로 담박하고 청량한 낭만적 상징으로 묘사하기도 하였다. 이 연구는 여러 한계 또한 노정하고 있으나, 성이나 도박, 담배와 같은 개별 주제와 접목하 는 새로운 시도를 통하여 다산학의 가치를 다양화하였다는 점에 연구의 의미를 두며, 앞으로 관련한 연구들이 이어지기를 기대한다.
