The purpose of this study is to investigate the educational necessities and tasks of the death-understanding Counseling. Man cannot escape his death as his own fate, so it is the most difficult thing to overcome the fear for death. Death is a natural development in a continuum with life. To be sure, traditional religions regretted early death, and some sought longevity or immortality, but they ultimately accepted death as a necessary part of the cosmic process, a process which is essentially good. But in modern educational thought, death is not a educational
subject because of the dualism between death and life. Therefore, life is the only way to develop
and expand the human power but death just seemed as the end or extinction of life. This kind of thought has made the prejudices that death is the negative and feaful event. Life and death are not the contradict.

본 연구는 이러한 삶과 죽음의 관계 속에서 죽음이 어떻게 현대의 교육에 침투되어 있는가를 성찰하는데서 출발한다. 삶이 죽음과 불가분의 관계라는 점과 서로 단절된 것이 아니라 상호 영향을 주고받는 관계라는 점을 바르게 인식한다면, 죽음에 대한 인식뿐만이 아니라 삶에 대한 인식이 달라질 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 따라서 상담의 현장에서 죽음의 이해를 통해서 자신의 심층적인 내면세계를 되돌아봄으로써 자기 앞에 놓인 현실이 보다 역동적으로 관조될 수 있는 가능성을 열어놓으려는 것이다. 죽음을 이해하는 상담활동이 단지 임종을 앞둔 환자나 노인에 해당되는 것이 아니라, 교육의 현장에서 발달 수준에 맞는 죽음에 대한 인식을 제공하는 것이 하나의 교육과정으로써 구현되야 한다는 점이다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 관점에서 죽음이해를 통한 상담의 필요성과 그 교육적 과제를 논의하고자 한다.
