Oriental Thought is largely divided into Confucianism(儒家思想=孔孟思想=Philosophy of Confucius and Mencius) and Taoism(道家思想=老莊思想=Philosophy of Laozi and Zhuangzi). These ideas have existed for over 2,500 years as the basic idea of the Orient. If Confucianism represents Elite Groups, Taoism is the idea of representing the general public. Taoism describes political and administrative positions and enjoyment of life and rest. This study finds Taoism(道家思想=老莊思想), the Tao(道) of physical education from the ideas of Laozi(老子) and Zhuangzi(莊子). In particular, Taoism(老莊思想) insists on Mu-wi(無爲), emphasizes the laws(道) of Nature(自然), and emphasizes freedom(自由) and pleasure(遊戲). Therefore, Taoism(老莊思想) has a significant meaning for 'Tao(道) of Physical Education'. The 'Tao(道) of physical education', which is found in Taoism, focuses on 'Physical Education - Theory of Educational Approach' and 'Sports - Theory of Attitude'. The idea of Taoism(老莊思想)'s ‘Tao of Mu-wi, Tao of Nature, freedom, pleasure’ will provide meaning to the discourse of Educational Approach and Practical Ethics Theory in physical education and sports activities.

동양사상(東洋思想)은 크게 유가(儒家)와 도가(道家) 사상으로 분류한다. 이 사상들은 2,500여 년 동안 동양 의 기본 사상으로 존재하고 있다. 유가사상이 지배층(爲政者)을 대변한다면, 도가사상은 피지배층(一般人)이 따랐던 사상이다. 도가사상은 정치나 행정적인 측면보다 삶의 즐거움과 휴식에 관하여 이야기를 한다. 이 연구는 도가(道家), 즉 노자(老子)와 장자(莊子)의 사상으로부터 체육의 道를 찾아보는 것이다. 특히, 노장(老莊)은 무위(無爲의 道)를 외 치고, 자연(自然)의 순리(順理=自然의 道)를 역설하며, 자유(自由)와 즐거움(遊戲)을 강조하였다. 따라서 노장사상 (老莊思想)은 ‘체육의 道’에 대하여 상당한 의미를 준다. 노장사상에서 찾아보는 ‘체육의 道’는 ‘체육-교육접근법’과 ‘스포츠 플레이-자세론’을 중심으로 논한다. 이 연구는 노장사상(老莊思想)의 ‘무위(無爲)의 도(道)’와 ‘자연(自然)의 道’는 그리고 ‘자유(自由)’와 ‘유희(遊戲)’에 대한 사상을 통해 체육교육과 스포츠활동에 있어서 ‘교육이론’과 ‘실천윤리 이론’의 담론형성에 의미를 제공할 것이다.
