Lee Seong-Bu wrote many of poems of mountain from 1990s. “Mountain” is the most important subject and theme of his poetry. It was very different world from his early poetry. This thesis aims to research the meaning of “the way” of the poems of mountain of Lee Seong-Bu. Most of mountain poems of his are concentrated to “the way”. “The way” is the principle of constituting his poems, and motive power of his all poems. The meanings of “the way” is three. First, It is “The way of New”. He walked to the goal ceaselessly of the new and freedom. Secondly, “The way of Meeting”. He wrote the poems of ‘Baekdudaegan(one of the mountain chains of Korea), that is the way to meet peoples of past and history, by walking the road of the Baekdudaegan. And he wrote the poems of reconciliation and healing of pains and wonds of the peoples of past. Finally, “The way of all together”. His poems of the mountain aims to recover the nature and our life, and to complete the unification of South and North Korea by recover the national community. Therefore, the poems of Lee Seong-Bu are continued from the early by the ‘mountain’, specially by the “the way”. “The way” is the symbol of the sprit of Lee Seong-Bu.

1990년대 이후 이성부 시의 가장 중요한 소재이자 주제는 산이다. 서울 근교의 암벽등반과 백두대간종주 산행체험을 바탕으로 한 산시를 창작하면서 과거의 민중시와는 매우 다른 시세계를 보여준다. 본고는 이성부의 후기 산시에 나타난 ‘길’의 의미를 살펴보았다. 이성부의 산시는 거의 대부분 ‘길’로 수렴된다. ‘길’은 그의 시의 주제이자 구성원리로서 거의 모든 시들이 길을 통해 하나로 엮이고 있다. 길은 그의 시정신을 나타내는 중요한 시정신으로서 그의 전체시를 이끌고 가는 원동력이 되고 있다. 그의 산시에 나타난 길의 의미는 크게 셋으로 나눌 수 있다. 먼저 그의 길은 언제나 ‘새로운 길’이다. 목적지를 향해 끊임없이 걸으면서 늘 새로움과 자유를 추구하고 있다. 다음으로 ‘만남의 길’이다. 백두대간을 걸으면서 과거 비극적인 역사와 고통스러운 삶을 살다간 사람들과 화해하고 치유하는 내용을 담고 있다. 옛사람들의 삶을 다시 불러내어 구체적인 역사의 현장으로 재구성하고 그들의 고통과 상처를 위무한다. 마지막으로 ‘함께 가는 길’이다. 그의 산시는 과거의 역사에만 관심을 두지 않고 현재 우리들의 삶과 미래에 대한 전망을 함께 담고 있다. 우리 삶의 근원으로서 자연과 생명의 회복과 민족 공동체 삶의 완성을 지향하고 있다. 따라서 그의 산시는 초기시에 비해 매우 새로운 세계이지만, 시정신은 크게 변하지 않고 오히려 더 큰 울림과 구체적 전망으로 발전하였음을 알 수 있다. 특히 ‘길’은 그가 추구하는 시정신의 가장 중심적 가치이자 상징으로서 그의 시 전체를 이끌어가는 중심원리이자 동력이었다고 하겠다.
