The purpose of this study is to systematically derive educational thoughts of Myeongjae Yun, Jeung. His educational thoughts can be embodied in three main points. The first is the need for education and study. In order to avoid losing one’s identity due to outside standards, one should engage in education and study with a heavy inside and light outside standards. The second is the method of education and study. The key is always to follow the basic rules to be followed, and the best example is the reading method proposed by Yun, Jeung. The third is the establishment of a teacher’s image by encouraging the right thing and by reprimanding the wrong thing. Yun, Jeung has expanded and implemented the scope of application of this method, including his teacher. In this study, Yun, Jeung’s educational thoughts can provide the following educational implications for us living in the modern world. The first is to shift the focus of education from the outside to the inside. Nextly, the second is to teach the existence of universal values and the importance of their practice. Lastly, a teacher should be able to accept the reasonable criticism his student make.

본 연구에서는 명재 윤증의 교육사상을 체계적으로 도출한다는 목적 아래 논의를 진행하였다. 그의 교육사상은 크게 세 가지로 구체화되는 바, ① 첫 번째는 교육과 공부의 필요성으로, 외물에 휩쓸려 주체성을 상실해서는 안 되며 이를 위해서는 ‘내중외경(內重外 輕)’의 자세로 교육과 공부에 임해야 한다는 것이다. ② 두 번째는 교육과 공부의 방법으로, 그 요지는 ‘항상됨[恒常]’이며 이것이 가장 잘 녹아 있는 것이 윤증의 독서법이다. 그는 책을 스승과 친우를 맞이하는 자세로 대하되, 융통성 있게 독서해야 하며, 독서한 내용은 반드시 실천을 염두에 두어야 한다고 보았다. 또한 독서를 하다가 막힌 곳이 생기면그 막힌 곳을 풀기 위해 노력해야 하고, 순서에 따라 독서해야 하며, 나이에 따라 폭넓게읽는 방식으로부터 요약해서 읽는 방식으로 독서 방법을 전환해야 한다고 보았다. ③ 세번째는 ‘책선(責善)’을 통한 스승상의 확립으로, 윤증은 책선의 범위를 매우 확장시켜 실천하였는데 관련 대상에는 스승도 포함되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 이 같은 윤증의 교육사상이 현대를 살아가는 우리들에게 다음과 같은 교육적 시사점을 제공한다고 주장하였다. ① 첫 번째는 교육의 무게중심을 외면에서 내면으로 전환해야 한다는 것이다. ② 이어서 두 번째는 지켜야 하는 보편적 가치의 존재와그 실천의 중요성을 가르쳐야만 한다는 것이다. ③ 끝으로 세 번째는 제자의 근거 있는비판은 수용하는 자세를 보여주는 것도 스승이 갖추어야 할 덕목 중 하나라는 것이다.
