This paper intends to analyze the maker movement and artist cooperative from the perspective of post-digital and critical making. The post-digital concept refers to the merging of old and new media, often with intervening technological mediations. In a similar way, critical making does not distinguish between thinking and making but rather regards handling materials and tools as a practice by which to develop one’s critical thinking about social problems. Critical making insists that one can learn to engage in the world through the iterative process of hands-on making and critical thinking. Post-digital and critical making aim to define making as not a goal-oriented action but as the restoration of fractured social relations. The Korean maker movement appears to evaluate individual creativity and cooperation with others, but it remains within the capital system, sustaining the dichotomy between thinking and making, goal and process, production and consumption. On the other hand, autonomous maker culture groups in Korea, such as Unmake Lab and Reliquum, highlight hands-on making and working together in the context of ordinary life. These artist cooperatives and small production practices regenerate the things and technologies which have vanished in the capitalist economy and promote the sharing of individual and social value between producers and consumers. This paper suggests that making to retrieve objects which have been marginalized during the process of digitalization can be a practice to consolidate social cooperation at this point in time.

본 논문은 메이커 운동과 문화예술 협동조합을 후기디지털과 비판적 만들기의 개념을 통해 분석하는 것 을 목적으로 한다. 후기디지털 담론은 미디어를 구식과 신식으로 구분하지 않고, 다양한 미디어를 전유 하여 은폐된 기술적 매개 과정에 비판적으로 개입하는 실천들을 강조한다. 이와 유사한 맥락에서 비판적 만들기는 발상과 제작을 단계적으로 구분하지 않고, 기술에 개입하고 물질을 다루는 행위가 사회적 문제 에 대한 비판적 사고로 확장되며 이러한 인식이 다시 만들기로 연결됨을 강조하는 개념이다. 후기디지털 과 비판적 만들기는 만들기를 목적 지향적인 행위가 아니라 사회적 관계를 복원하는 실천으로 정의하고 자 한다. 국내에서 전개되어 온 메이커 운동은 창의적 발상과 개인들 간의 협업이라는 가치를 강조하는 것처럼 보이지만, 생각과 만들기, 목표와 과정, 생산과 소비의 이분법을 그대로 유지하면서 자본주의적 가치체계를 따른다. 반면에 자생적 제작문화공동체들은 일상생활의 맥락에서 손으로 만드는 행위와 여러 사람과 함께 노동하는 즐거움을 전면화하고자 한다. 문화예술협동조합과 소규모 제작실천들은 자본주의 생산체계에서 탈락된 사물과 기술을 복원하여 생산자와 소비자가 개인적이고 사회적 가치를 공유하도록 한다. 본 논문은 디지털화가 진행되면서 소외된 대상들을 되살리는 만들기라는 행위를 통해 사회적 협력 이 강화될 수 있다는 것을 제안한다.
