This study analyzed how media uses of marriage migrant women in Korea were related to their acculturation. For this purpose, this study conducted a secondary analysis of the existing Korean researches on media use of marriage migrant women focused particularly, on the relationship of their media use attitude, motivations and gratifications with cultural adaptation to Korea. As a result, they were using both traditional media (i.e. TV) and digital media (i.e. Internet, smartphones) and the main reason why marriage migrant women used media in Korea was to understand the language, culture, tradition and history of Korea and on the other side, to maintain relationships with their families, colleagues, and friends and others. It was confirmed that the use of media by marriage migrant women had a positive effect on their acculturation in Korea. Moreover, it showed that in the acculturation process media contribute to the integration of marriage migrant women in Korean society. However, it is still unclear how media affect their segregation, cultural transformation, and marginalization. Therefore, empirical verification is needed in the future studies.

이 연구는 한국에 거주하는 결혼 이주여성의 미디어 이용행태와 미디어의 이용이 한국 사회 적응과 어떤 관련이 있는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 결혼 이주여성의 미디어 이용 등의 관한 기존 연구결과를 고찰하는 2차 분석을 실시하였 다. 즉, 그 동안 한국에서 결혼이주여성의 미디어 이용행태, 미디어 이용 동기, 그리 고 미디어 이용과 문화적응과의 관계를 다룬 연구결과를 고찰하였다. 연구결과, 한 국에서 결혼이주여성이 미디어를 이용하는 이유는 한국의 언어, 문화, 전통, 역사 등 을 이해하기 위한 목적이 중심을 이루고 있었고, 한편으로는 가족, 동료, 친구 등과 의 관계를 유지하기 위한 것으로 나타났다. 결혼이주여성은 이용하는 미디어는 텔레 비전과 인터넷과 스마트폰 등 디지털 미디어였다. 텔레비전을 이용하는 이유는 주로 방송프로그램 등 내용물을 접하기 위한 것이었고, 디지털 미디어는 주로 사회적 관 계를 유지하고, 정보를 습득하기 위한 것이었다. 결혼 이주여성들은 한국 텔레비전 프로그램에 대해 긍정적인 평가도 하지만, 부정적인 평가를 하는 측면도 있었다. 특 히 텔레비전 프로그램에서 결혼이주여성에 대해 부정적으로 묘사하고 있어, 프로그 램에 대한 만족도가 매우 낮았다. 반면에 인터넷 기반의 디지털 미디어는 여러 가지 유용한 정보를 알려주고 있어 긍정적으로 평가하였다. 결혼 이주여성은 한국사회에 대한 이해, 한국에 대한 정보 습득, 한국 문화의 이해를 위해 미디어를 활용하고 있 었다. 따라서 미디어가 결혼이주여성의 한국사회 적응에서 통합에 기여하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 구체적으로 분리, 문화변용, 주변화에 어떻게 영향을 주 고 있는지는 아직 밝혀지지 않아 향후 이에 대한 연구가 필요하다는 사실을 확인하 였다.
