The development of IT technology is accelerating the globalization of information and accordingly is breaking down the cultural border between countries. Now, most of the nations in the world put a great emphasis on the traditional culture of their own countries as a keyword of national competitiveness and make a strenuous effort to create the world-class design by making use of the traditional culture reflecting the unique idea and aesthetic sense. The field of the hair design, as a genre of the art, has also conducted the lots of studies in pursuit of recreating the tradition in the modern way. This paper examines the current state of the works of hair created based on the traditional culture material, analyzes the characteristics of the material and how to utilize the material in designing the works of hair, sheds new light on the value of the traditional culture material and aims at making the reference data available to the researcher who will conduct a subsequent study. To do so, above all, the paper looks into the concept of the traditional culture material through literature review, and then analyzes the current state of the works of hair using the traditional culture material and how to utilize the traditional culture material in creating the works of hair, which is meaningful in terms of discovery of idea. However, Though inevitably having a limitation to be revised afterwards, because it is written based on the works of hair studied as of now, this paper is meaningful in that it is the first one to comprehensively examine the works of hair using the traditional culture material and is expected to be useful for the next studies.

IT 기술의 발달은 정보의 세계화를 가속화시켜 국가 간 문화의 경계선을 허물고 있다. 다양한 세계문화의 유입은 자국의 문화와 상생하여 문화적 발전을 가져오기도 하지만 자칫 문화적 혼합이 국가 고유의 문화적 색을 잃게 하기도 한다. 이러한 문화의 세계화 속에서 문화적 우위를 차지하는 국가가 곧 세계를 선도하는 시대적 흐름이 형성되었고 이는 국가 간 소리 없는 문화전쟁시대를 열었다. 현재 세계 각 국가는 국가경쟁력의 키워 드로 자국 전통 문화에 주목하며 고유의 사상과 미의식이 반영된 전통문화소재를 활용한 세계적 디자인을 창조해내고자 힘쓰고 있다. 헤어디자인 분야 역시 독립된 하나의 예술장 르로 승화되면서 전통을 현대적으로 새롭게 재창조하려는 연구들을 많이 진행하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 현재까지 제작된 전통문화소재를 바탕으로 한 헤어작품들의 현황을 살펴 보고 모티브화 한 소재의 특성과 헤어작품 디자인 구성 시 소재의 활용방법 등을 분석하 여, 전통문화소재의 가치를 재조명시키고 향후 후속 연구자들이 참고할 수 있는 연구적 기초자료를 만드는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 전통문화소재의 개념에 대해 문헌 고찰 중심으로 살펴본 후 전통문화소재를 응용한 헤어작품의 현황을 분석하였다. 그 후 전통문화소재를 헤어작품 구성 시 어떻게 접근하여 활용하였는지를 분석하고 아이디어 적으로 의미가 있다 사료되는 작품 6점을 선정하여 사례분석 하였다. 본 연구는 현 시점에 서 연구된 헤어작품들을 바탕으로 하기 때문에 향후 추가·수정되어야 하는 한계점을 내포 할 수 밖에 없으나 전통문화소재를 활용한 헤어작품을 종합적으로 고찰해 본 첫 연구라는 점에서 후속 연구에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
