This article seeks to explore what a more fundamental approach Christian colleges and universities should take in order to fulfill their missional tasks. One cannot argue that Christian mission colleges and universities have accomplished their missions only by offering chapel classes and Christianity-introducing classes that are required of their students to take for credit. Christian colleges and universities should be enabled to evangelize their students and teach them Christian values and virtues, and eventually Christian worldviews through academic training. One of the ways they can achieve their missional responsibility is to open and teach a class that will clearly engrave Christian values and virtues on their students. They need to make sure that the prospective class deals with a subject that is relevant to every student whether or not he/she is a Christian. This article suggests that educating the importance of the integrity of creation is helpful for accomplishing the missional tasks of Christian colleges and universities. The central thesis of this essay is that teaching “the integrity of creation” will strengthen the mission of Christian colleges as they strive to engrave Christian values and virtues on their students. To this end, the present essay proposes a green movement project for a Christian university as a means of fulfilling its dual task of achieving educational excellency and conserving Christian identity. Emerging as a global issue since the 1970s, the green movement has become a useful topic for the teaching of Christian worldview and value, because it offers a variety of resources for nurturing Christians’ royal and priestly responsibility for cultivating and keeping the Earth(Gen 1:26-28; 2:15). With this concern in mind, Section 2 of the present essay makes a brief survey of the history of the green movement, while Section 3 discusses what place the preservation of creation and the green movement occupies in the Christian faith. Section 4 argues that the preservation of creation and the green movement is a sort of Missio Dei for the entire creatures. Section 5 examines the Christian response to the ecological crisis, especially the WCC’s participations in the green movement. A survey of the history of WCC’s long involvement with the preservation of the integrity of creation will provide Christian colleges and universities with plentiful insights as they will try to design a class on preservation of the integrity of creation. Finally, section 6 presents a theological guideline for a Christian university’s participation in the green movement. Finally, the present essay proposes several practical guidelines for a Christian university’s participation in the green movement.
