In the beginning years of his reign, King Anwon concentrated on the relationship with the Chinese South Dynasty(Liang), not differing from the ruling style of the late king.This is first because King Anjang’s supporting groups remained in the state and secondly because internal conflict constantly occurred in the Northern Wei dynasty. But after the middle part of his reign, King Anwon promoted different foreign policy, giving weight to the relationship with the Chinese North Dynasties(Eastern Wei). The first main reason for this is that King Anwon’s supporting groups united with the installation of the Crown Prince; the second main reason is that the north dynasties‘ situation was settled considerably after the division of the Northern Wei Dynasty. At the same time, King Anwon did not neglect the intercourse with the Liang dynasty, maintaining the fundamental foreign policy that had been fixed since the middle of 5th Century. But at that time extraordinary natural phenomena repeatedly occurred in Goguryeo, which was sizable burden on King Anwon’s government management.
