A purpose of this study is to review the way of reflecting ‘the story of Sun and Moon’ in the movie, ‘Jangsanbum’. The film is an interesting film with the motif based on the traditional folk tale, ‘the Story of Sun and Moon’ and the relevant eyewitness accounts of Jangsanbum which could be found on the Internet. Both traditional narratives and the eyewitness stories commonly exist as folk talks. They respond promptly and sensitively to the harsh reality of life where literary acts are made. In other words, taking a look at how the stories have been changed from current position can be an important clue to identify signals from people. In terms of wishful tale, ‘the Story of Sun and Moon’ was the best choice which mother could have imagined in her reality. How terrible her life was! She just dreamt of dying. She couldn’t even dream of managing life in the world. Reflecting increasing family suicide today where parents kill themselves after killing their children, we need to think about it. The film, ‘Jangsanbum’ talking about the story of Sun and Moon also talks about endless anxiety, an illusion an individual creates continuously in dangerous society. However, if the folk tale flew in allegory, the reality the film suggests looks more realistic. If anxiety which gets easily comes and ruins our reason lasts, our society might lose ground of autonomy and morality. We should try to listen carefully to what our sick society tries to tell us.

본고는 영화 <장산범>의 ‘해님 달님 이야기’ 차용 방식을 통해 우리 사회의 불안의 징후를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 영화 <장산범>은 전통 설화 ‘해님 달님 이야기’와 인터넷상에 떠돌던 장산범 관련 목격담을 모티프로 한 흥미로운 영화이다. 전통 설화나 오늘날의 목격담은 모두 민간에서 썰, 혹은 설(說)로서 존재하는 것으로 문학 행위가 일어나는 삶의 현실에 기민하게 반응한다는 공통점이 있다. 즉, 이들 이야기를 현재적 위치에서 살피는 것은 민간에서 보내오는 신호를 파악해내는 데 중요한 단서가 된다. 소망담의 측면에서 볼 때 ‘해님 달님 이야기’는 위험 사회에서 개인이 느끼는 지속적 불안이 만들어낸 이야기라고 할 수 있다. 처한 현실에서 무기력한 어머니가 상상해 볼 수 있었던 최선의 선택지였다. 어떠한 삶이었기에 이승에서의 삶은 상상조차하지 못하고 구천을 꿈꿀 수 있는지 의문이 들기도 하지만, 오늘날 해마다 증가하고 있는 가족동반자살, 아니, 자녀살해 후 부모자살의 문제에 비추어 볼 때 허구의 이야기로 가벼이 여길 수만은 없는 문제이다. 위험 사회에서 보호받지 못한 채 지속적 불안을 겪어야만 했던 어머니의 무기력한 위기 대처 방식을 그려낸 ‘해님 달님 이야기’의 서사를 차용한 영화 <장산범>도 끊임없이 불안에 대해 이야기한다. 그러나 설화가 알레고리적이었다면 영화가 제시하는 현실은 좀 더 노골적이다. 사회적 위험이 가중되고 그로 말미암아 쉽게 사람의 마음을 파고들어 이성을 흐릿하게 하는 불안이 지속된다면 우리 사회는 그 흐릿한 시야로 인해 판단력을 잃어버린 채 자율성․도덕성 기반을 잃게 될 것이다. 병든 사회가 이야기를 통해 우리에게 건네는 소리에 귀를 기울여야 한다.
