Preparation and Sensory Evaluation of the Natural Lip Tint containing Hydrogenated Styrene/Isoprene Copolymer

The use of natural coloring materials has been variously attempted due to the harmfulness of tar pigments used in lip products. However, problems arise with regard to stability, color development, and sustainability. Therefore, in this study, the viscosity improver was added to the formulation of produced lip tint to improve its sustainability. A control sample was prepared from gardenia extract colorant and Hydrogenated styrene/Isoprene copolymer was added to Control sample to make Sample A. For comparative evaluation, Sample B (commercial product) to which tar pigment was added was prepared. Finally, we evaluated sensory attribute of prepared lip tints by 5-Likert scales. The measurements of product color of Sample A were L* 54.88±0.40, a* 27.64±0.48, and b* 35.94±0.79 whereas, those of post-application color development were L*51.30±1.75, a* 22.17 ±1.92, and b* 18.80±1.43. The result of sensory evaluation demonstrated that lip tint containing gardenia extract and hydrogenated styrene/Isoprene copolymer (Sample A) were high values in product color and persistence. As a consequence, it is expected that the use of Hydrogenated styrene/Isoprene copolymer can increase the commercialization potential for the improvement of the retention of lip tint using natural coloring materials.
