Kim, Duk-myoung, one of maor leaders who represented the Donghak Peasant Revolution with eon, Bong-un, Kim, Kae-nam, Choi, Kyung-sun and Sohn, Hwa-ung was a Daeubu. He was a leading role of Wonpyung Assembly. He also played a maor role in Baeksan Assembly, occupation of eonu, and Wonpyung Battle after Muang prising in April. 1894. This article is a study about Kim, Duk-myoung’s family and lineage, activities, and his local base, Wonpyung region, based on historical materials, researches, and interviews. irst, Wonpyung was a maor transportation point and a place where materials and info were collected. And it was also the hometown and base for eon, Bong-un, Kim, Kae-nam, and Choi, Kyung-sun as well as Kim, Dukmyoung. Second, in Baeksan prising in 1894, the position of overall adviser, occupied by Kim, Duk-myoung seems to be a role for consulting and advising strategies and tactics for the Donghak Peasant Army. Third, Kim, Duk-myoung’s body, unlike those of the other leaders, was transferred to Wonpyung by his friends. The fact that he was the only person whose body could be transferred among the peasant leaders who were executed, could be an evidence for his ordinary human relations. ourth, the evaluation and interpretation of the records should matter. The governmental records are very fragmentary and limited but contain relatively detailed process and result of the battle in Wonpyung area. However, the whether ust 37 people were killed in the actual Wonpyung Battle can be problematic. Because the battle was made for 7 hours with firearms and there were more casualties. ifth, it is necessary to precede the analysis on the entire leaders for the study about those who participated in the Donghak Peasant Revolution in this area in future.
