The Effects of the Perception of Multicultural Education by Korea Coast Guard Students on Multicultural Behavior : With human rights consciousness parameterized

The study examined the relationship between awareness of multicultural education of Korea Coast Guard Trainee, human rights awareness and multicultural attitude. According to the analysis, the average multicultural attitude of Korea Coast Guard Trainees was 4.48, 4.19 and 3.63 for awareness of multicultural education. All three variables were higher than normal. Among the three variables, multicultural attitudes was the highest, and human rights awareness was the lowest. The correlation between all variables was found to be significant between r=.293 and 6.933. According to the difference between the demographic and social factors in the multicultural attitude, the backgrounds of Korea Coast Guard Trainee were significantly different. Especially, there is a difference between groups of foreign language and public bonds. There was a difference between groups with a higher average of students who entered foreign language classes than those who entered public education. This is believed to have affected Korea Coast Guard Trainee who have entered foreign language specials either interested in foreign languages or their experience in foreign travel. The study's perception of multicultural education, which is an independent variable, was found to have a positive influence on human rights consciousness and multicultural behavior, which is a dependent variable. In other words, if awareness of multicultural education increases by one point, human rights awareness increases by .368, and multicultural attitudes by .680 points. On the other hand, human rights awareness had a direct impact on multicultural attitudes. However, it was found that awareness of multicultural education does not play a role as a parameter in its influence on multicultural attitudes. Multicultural attitude is β value when human rights consciousness, a parameter, is introduced. It turned out to be 671. The study revealed that awareness of multicultural education is a major contributor to multicultural attitudes. Therefore, the authorities of the Korea Coast Guard Training Institute, which is in charge of education of Korea Coast Guard, should provide education related to multiculturalism to Korea Coast Guard Trainees. And we need to raise awareness about multicultural education. It also suggests that multicultural education should be provided through regular training, not one education. In addition, the average score of Korea Coast Guard Trainee’s human rights is lower than other variables, and the site of human rights abuse is frequently witnessed and occurred in the ocean Therefore, it suggests that human rights education should also be conducted to promote awareness of human rights among Korea Coast Guard Trainees.

본 연구는 해양경찰교육생의 다문화교육에 대한 인식, 인권의식, 다문화태도의 관계에 대해 알아보았다. 분석 결과 해양경찰교육생들의 다문화태도는 평균 4.48점, 다문화교육에 대한 인식은 4.19점, 인권의식은 3.63점으로 나타났다. 세 변수 모두 보통수준 보다는 높게 나타났다. 세 변수 중 다문화태도가 가장 높았으며, 인권의식이 가장 낮은 것을 알 수 있었다. 모든 변수 간의 상관관계는 r=.293~.693 사이에서 유의한 것으로 확인 되었다. 다문화태도에 있어 인구사회학적 변인에 따른 차이를 알아본 결과 해양경찰교육생들의 입직경로가 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(F=3.568, p<.01). 특히 외국어특채와 공채의 집단간에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났는데 외국어특채로 들어온 교육생이 공채로 들어온 교육생보다 더 높은 수준의 평균값을 가진 집단으로 차이가 있었다. 이는 외국어특채로 들어온 해양경찰교육생들이 외국어를 배우기 위해 외국에 대해 관심을 갖거나 혹은 외국 여행의 경험이 영향이 있을 것으로 여겨진다. 본 연구의 독립변수인 다문화교육에 대한 인식은 매개변수인 인권의식과 종속변수인 다문화태도에 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나왔다. 즉 다문화교육에 대한 인식이 1점 높아지면 인권의식이 β값이 .368점 높아지며, 다문화태도는 β값이 .680점 높아진다. 반면, 인권의식은 다문화태도에 직접적인 영향은 있었지만 다문화교육에 대한 인식이 다문화태도에 미치는 영향에서 매개변수로서의 역할은 하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 매개변수인 인권의식이 투입되었을 때 다문화태도는 β값이 .671점으로 나타났다.
