This study aims to investigate the influence of material deprivation and drinking on the suicidal behaviors using data from the 7th to 12th waves of the Korea Welfare Panel Study. The findings are as follows. First, as for the demographic features, masculine gender had statistically significant effect on suicidal ideation, suicidal plan, and suicidal attempt. The older age, lower education level, and being in married state showed significant effect on the suicidal ideation. Second, as for the material deprivation, experiences in food, medical, and credit deprivation had statistically significant effect on suicidal ideation, suicidal plan, and suicidal attempt. Material deprivation in housing had significant effect on suicidal ideation and suicidal attempt. Third, as for the drinking factors, problem drinking behaviors, such as needing a first drink in the morning after a heavy drinking, had significant effect on suicidal ideation. Problem drinking behaviors, such as feeling a guilt or remorse after drinking and/or unable to remembering what happened the night before because of drinking, had significant effect on suicidal ideation and suicidal plan.

본 연구는 우리나라 저소득층의 물질적 박탈과 음주요인이 자살행위에 미치는 영향들을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하고, 한국복지패널 7~12차년도 자료를 이용하여 연도별 변화추이를 살펴보고 패널 분석을 수행하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인구학적 특성으로는 성별이 남성일 때 자살생각, 자살계획, 자살시도 전반에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 또한 연령이 높을수록 자살생각에 영향을 미쳤고, 교육수준이 낮을수록 자살생각에 영향을 미쳤고, 결혼상태일 때 자살생각에 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 물질적 박탈에서는 음식박탈, 의료박탈, 신용박탈 경험이 자살생각, 자살계획, 자살시도에 두루 영향을 미쳤고, 주거박탈 경험이 자살생각과 자살시도에 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 음주요인에서는 과음 후 해장술을 마신 경험이 자살생각에 영향을 주었고, 음주 후 좌절감이나 후회, 또는 필름이 끊긴 경험이 자살생각과 자살계획에 영향을 주었다. 위 연구 결과에 근거하여 물질적 박탈, 음주문제, 및 자살 위험에 취약한 사회계층을 지원하기 위한 사회복지 실천 방안을 제안하였다.
