This study investigated the time-lag effect between the innovative activity and the performance of the nano-convergence industry, utilizing ‘Survey of the Nano-Convergence Industry’ Korean firm-level data. First, the performance would be achieved in the nano-convergence industry, only if an investment in research and development has been accumulated longer than a certain period. For a nano business to secure a sustainable competitive advantage, knowledge management is emphasized, which recognizes knowledge as the core resource of the business and systematically produces, manages and utilizes it. Second, there was a certain time-lag between an investment in a process and the performance of it. Since it takes a long time for an investment in the process to be connected to the performance, it is suggested that it is necessary to improve the effort for technology commercialization connecting the product of the innovative activity with the economic performance, and in particular, it is necessary to set up a policy and improve the system to support and promote the creation of a new market for nano businesses in this process.

혁신활동에 대한 투자는 불확실성, 고비용, 비특유성, 시차 등의 특성을 가진다는 점에서 전략 적·체계적으로 수행되어져야 하는 활동이다. 이러한 활동에는 생산과 수익으로 연결되기까지의 회임기간을 가지는 동시에 투자의 성격에 따라 대규모 및 장기적 투자가 요구될 수 있다는 점 에서, 특히 기업들은 시차 구조를 파악하는 것이 전략적 차원에서 강조되고 있다. 본 연구에서 는 우리나라 나노융합산업에서 최근에서야 구축된 기업차원(firm-level) 조사 데이터인 「나노융 합산업조사」자료를 활용하여 나노융합산업의 혁신활동 및 성과 간의 시차효과를 살펴보았다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 나노융합산업에서는 일정 기간 이상의 연구개발 투자 가 누적되어야 그 성과가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 나노기업이 지속가능한 경쟁우위를 확보하기 위해서는 지식을 기업의 핵심자원으로서 인식하고, 이를 체계적으로 생산·관리·활용하 는 지식경영이 강조된다고 하겠다. 둘째, 나노융합산업의 경우 공정에 대한 투자와 성과 간에는 일정 기간의 시차가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 이처럼 나노융합산업에서는 공정에 대한 투자가 성과로 연결되기까지 오랜 시간이 소요된다는 점에서 혁신활동의 성과물을 경제적 성과로 연계 하는 기술사업화 노력이 강화될 필요가 있으며, 특히 이러한 과정에서 나노기업의 신시장 창출 을 지원·육성하는 정책 및 제도적 개선이 필요함을 시사한다.
