This paper tried to demonstrate some characteristics of a manuscript of Brevis Relatio that is preserved now at the Central Library of Seoul National University. The manuscript was written by a Jesuit missionary in 1700 at Beijing. Philogically to see, the materal of the manuscript was of Bamboo, pages were numerated by Chinese numbers, and names and signatures of those who took part in publication are noted at the last page of the manuscript. These showed clearly how Europe books were published in China at those times. Regarding theology, the manuscript provides some important evidences that make clear the position of Jesuits missionaries about Chinese rites controvery. They regarded it as political, not religious issue. Historically to see, Brevis relatio is a testimony for the fact that rites controversy took place not only at China but also at Europe. Rite controversy was a global issue at those days. Politically to see, Brevis relatio demonstrated the position of Kam-Hi Emperor(康熙帝) about retes controversy. He declared explicitly that Chinese rites should be better understood politically and culturally.

이 글은 서울대학교 중앙도서관 귀중본실(경성제국대학도서관)에 소장된 《중국전례보고서》의 서지적인 특징을 살폈고 책의 저자 문제를 다루었으며 책의 내용과 중요성에 대해서 고찰하였다. 문헌학적인 관점에서 《중국전례보고서》는 문헌 자체가 필사본이고 만주어와 한문 원문 원문을 포함하고 있으며 책의 쪽 수에 대한 표기가 아라비아 숫자가 아닌 한자로 표기되어 있고 《중국전례보고서》의 탄생에 관여한 예수회 신부들의 자필 서명을 전하고 있다는 점에서 소중한 자료이다. 신학적인 관점에서 《중국전례보고서》는 ‘중국의 전례’ 문제를 두고서 예수회 신부들 사이에서 벌어졌던 논쟁들과 동양의 조상 숭배 문제와 제사 의례에 대한 서양인들의 시선과 입장을 상세하게 전하는 문헌이다. 역사적인 관점에서 전례 논쟁이 동양에서만 벌어진 논쟁이 아니고 오히려 서양에서 더 치열하게 벌어진 다툼이었음을 보여주는 문건이라는 점에서 《중국전례보고서》는 전례 논쟁이 17~18세기에 벌어진 세계사적인 사건이었음을 보여주는 증거 자료이다. 정치적인 관점에서, 천주교에 대한 중국 강희제의 입장, 즉 강희제의 공식 입장이 무엇인지를 살필 수 있다는 점에서 《중국전례보고서》는 학술적으로 중요한 보물이다.
