This experiment was conducted to investigate the characteristics of the medium on composting step by comparing of excavator agitator and turner prototype II. Temperature changes in medium were not significantly different between the two treatments until the 2nd turning. And in the 3rd to 5th turning, the temperature rise was accelerated more rapidly in the treatments with turner prototype turning II. In pasteurization, temperature changes were maintained at the high temperature in the turner prototype II treatment from the beginning of fermentation. In the outdoor composting, various microorganisms such as thermophilic bacteria (Bacillus spp.), Actinomycetes, fluorescent Pseudomonas spp., and filamentous fungi were distributed in the medium. Especially, the density of aerobic bacteria involved in the degradation and exotherm of the medium was higher in the fourth and fifth turning. The density of aerobic bacteria, thermophilic bacteria, and thermophilic actinomycetes was high in the treatments using the turner prototype II. The length of rice straw was slightly shorter when using a turner prototype II, and moisture content showed no significant difference between treatments. The L value tended to be higher in turner prototype II, and The values of a and b showed high tendency in the turner prototype II. The CN rate was initially 23 and decreased to 16 in the fifth turning.
