For maintaining and strengthening sovereignty over Dokdo, it is necessary for Korea to consolidate effective control over Dokdo. We examined about the Dokdo Volunteer Forces which played an important role in control over Dokdo. The Dokdo Volunteer Forces are the modern version of righteous army against Japan’s pillage of Dokdo during the turmoil by the Korean War. The root of the emergence of righteous army in other times was organized during a national crisis, while the Dokdo Volunteer Forces started from the personal motivation of overcoming a crisis. This is why we have to remember and inherit the spirit to future generations.

독도영유권 유지 및 강화를 위해서 독도에 대한 실효적 지배를 공고히 하도록 해야 하는데, 이에 대한 결정적 역할을 한 독도의용수비대에 대해 조명하였다. 독도의용수비대는 6.25전쟁으로 인한 국가 혼란 속에 일본의 독도영유권 침탈에 맞서 독도를 지켜낸 현대적 의병이다. 다른 시대의 의병 활동 출현의 근류는 국가적 위기 속에서 조직된 것이었으나, 독도의용수비대는 개인적으로 위기를 극복하고자 조직하였기에 그 의의가 더욱 크며 계승해야 하는 이유이다.
