The aim of this study is to examine mediation effects of positive and negative family impact in the associations between parenting strain and post-traumatic growth(PTG) among mothers raising children with developmental disabilities in South Korea. This study surveyed 200 mothers raising children with developmental disabilities who participated in the programs run by welfare center in Gyeonggi and Incheon provinces. The results showed that the positive family impact fully mediated the relationships between self-evaluated parenting strain and PTG, while the negative impact did not mediate the relationship. These findings revealed that it would be an effective strategy to enhance the positive aspect of family to improve PTG of participants.

본 연구의 목적은 학령기 발달장애인 어머니의 양육 부담과 외상 후 성장(Post-traumatic Growth)과 관계를 살펴보고 발달장애인 가족이 경험한 긍정적 또는 부정적 가족 영향(Family Impact)의 매개효 과를 분석하는 데 있다. 분석 대상은 경기⋅인천 지역에 있는 복지관 또는 치료센터를 이용하는 발달장애인 어머니 200명으로 하였다. 분석 결과, 어머니의 주관적인 양육 부담과 외상 후 성장은 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 보였으며, 긍정적인 가족 영향은 양육부담과 외상 후 성장과의 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타난 반면, 부정적인 가족 영향은 이 두 변수의 관계를 매개하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 발달장애인 어머니의 외상 후 성장이 단순히 양육부담의 감소를 통해 이루어지기 보다는 가족이 경험하는 긍정적인 영향의 강화를 통해 높아질 수 있음을 보여준다.
