The ideal world that Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) has pursued is an ideal world of 'peace' in which disputes, conflicts, hate and grudge are resolved. Therefore, ‘peace’ is the most comprehensive expression of the religious ideals of the family unity. Pyeong Hwa Gyeong(󰡔平和經󰡕), one of three Scriptures of FFWPU centered on peace message which is declare on peace ideal world what mankind have been hoped. In particular, peace messages of Pyeong Hwa Gyeong often appeals to be the protagonist of the foundation of Cosmic Peace Ideal World that came through “King of Peace”. However, despite the fact that the concept of the king of peace can make a negative impression on our modern people by associating the monarchic kingdom or theocracy of Middle ages, why does FFWPU, which is engaged in a new religious movement and peace movement, use the old concept of political and religious nuances as the “King of Peace”? The understanding of term on ‘King of peace’ in Pyeong Hwa Gyeong could be different view depend on angles of view point. Specially, this study focused religious notion or religious political notion because the term of king of peace did not change but meaning of it has been changed in connection with understanding of messiah or savior in the religious history. In the same view point, the concept on king of peace in Pyeong Hwa Gyeong could be same meaning of king of peace in the history of Judaism and christianity king of peace and it could be reinterpret newly. King of peace has been used many times in ideal world theory of family federation and peace message in Pyeong Hwa Gyeong. So this research will study that what is different and how could connected in old religious and political history. The main task is to confirm that the concept of ‘King of Peace’ in Pyeong Hwa Gyeong is inheriting and reinterpreting the old Messianic concepts such as the peace of the king and the peace of Christ in the religious history. In conclusion, the concept of the King of Peace in Pyeong Hwa Gyeong is to overcome the power ideology of ‘peace of king’, the Messiah as a victorious warrior, and inherit the Messianic meaning of Christ as King of Peace by love and sacrifice. In addition, it can be seen that the Messiah was reinterpreted as messiah as True Parents, King of Peace as True Parents, the root of mankind in King of Peace of Pyeong Hwa Gyeong.

평화는 인류의 오랜 소망이지만, 무엇이 평화이고 누구의 평화이며 어떻게 평화가 가능한지에 대해 수많은 입장과 견해가 상충하고 있고 갈등과 전쟁, 폭력의 현실은 여전히 인간의 실존적 조건이다. 세계평화통일가정연합은 그러한 갈등과 다툼, 미움과 원한이 해소된 ‘평화’이상세계를 종교적 이상으로 지향하며, 종교영역을 넘어 다양한 평화운동을 활발하게 펼쳐왔다. ‘평화’는 가정연합의 종교적 이상과 실천적 지향을 가장 총체적으로 표현하며 종교를 넘어선 운동들의 일관된 슬로건이자 기조이다. 그런 점에서 가정연합의 평화관은 한국의 종교평화사상으로서 주목할 만하다. 이러한 가정연합의 평화운동은 종교적 신정국가나 세계정부 실현 등의 정치적 목표를 추구하는 것으로 인식되기도 한다. 이는 가정당 창당이나 평화유엔운동 등의 활동, 나아가 가정연합의 평화메시지에 등장하는 ‘평화의 왕’, ‘천주평화왕국’, 천주평화의 왕 등과 같은 표현에 기인한다. 가정연합의 주요경전에 속하는 『평화경』의 핵심인 평화메시지는 “평화의 왕”을 통해 평화이상세계가 도래했음을 선포하고 청중들에게 평화세계 창건의 주역이 되라고 호소하는 것이다. 그러나 가정연합은 민주주의의 가치를 공유하며 실체적으로 왕국이나 왕정과 같은 정치형태를 추구하지는 않기에 세간의 인식처럼 이러한 개념들을 왕정복고적인 정치사상의 표현이라고 볼 수는 없다. 그렇다면 『평화경』의 평화메시지에 등장하는 “평화의 왕” 개념을 어떻게 이해해야 할까? 이 논문은 새로운 종교운동과 평화운동을 전개하고 있는 가정연합의 평화메시지에서 반복적으로 나타나는 이 ‘평화의 왕’ 개념이 왜, 어떤 의미로 사용되었는지 살펴봄으로써 가정연합의 종교평화사상의 특징을 파악하고자 하였다. 그 단초는 『평화경』에 등장하는 ‘평화의 왕’ 개념이 종교사적으로 왕의 평화, 그리스도의 평화와 같은 오래된 메시아주의적 개념들을 계승하고 재해석하고 있음을 확인하는 것이다. 『평화경』의 ‘평화의 왕’ 개념은 승리한 전사로서의 메시아 관이 가진 ‘왕의 평화’가 가진 권력, 혹은 무력에 의한 평화를 극복하고, 사랑과 희생에 의한 평화의 왕 그리스도의 메시아적 의미를 계승하면서도, 메시아를 인류의 뿌리가 되는 참부모로서의 평화의 왕으로 재해석한 것으로 볼 수 있다.
