For the cultivation of future talents and the realization of education for happiness, our country implemented ‘Free-Semester’ along the way in 2016. Particularly, due to the growth and diversification of the fields of performing arts, the area of costume design has broadened, and the need of design education increased as well, the programs suitable for this are incomplete. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to suggest a design education program to provide teenagers with an opportunity to cultivate their career competencies and explore their career for successful realization of free-semester. As a research method, the study reviewed the status of free-semester through the related literature and advanced research and developed a total of 16 periods of educational program using the current educational situation and business process of costume design. The developed program was applied to execution with 74 students in their first year at B middle school in S-gu, seoul city, and its effectiveness was analyzed. The results showed that the grade point average of the item ‘had an interest in costume design and clothing-related career path’ was 4.04/5, which 70(94.59%) out of 74 students gave more than theoretical average mark(3). Accordingly, it could be seen that this program was successful in that it allowed the participating students in the middle school free-semester program to know and have an interest in costume design and clothing-related career path. It is expected that various design-related programs meeting the purpose of free-semester including this program will be continuously developed.

미래인재 양성 및 행복교육 실현을 위해 우리나라는 2016년 ‘자유학기제’를 전면 실시하였다. 특히 공연예술 분야의 성장과 다양화로 인해 무대의상디자인의 영역은 광범위해지고 디자인 교육의 필요성 또한 증가하고 있지만, 이에 적합한 교육 프로그램은 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 자유학기제의 성공적 실현을 위한 디자인 교육 프로그램을 제안하여 청소년의 진로역량함양 및 진로탐색 기회를 제공하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로는 관련문헌 및 선행연구를 통해 자유학기제의 현황을 고찰하고, 무대의상디자인의 교육현황 및 업무 프로세스를 활용하여 총 16차시의 교육 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 프로그램은 서울시 S구 소재 B 중학교 1학년 학생 74명을 대상으로 실행 적용하여 프로그램의 효과성을 분석하였다. 프로그램 평가를 분석한 결과 ‘무대의상디자인과 의상 관련 진로분야에 관심을 갖게 되었다’ 항목의 평균 평점이 4.04/5로 총 74명 중 70명(94.59%)이 이론적 평균(3) 이상의 점수를 준 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 프로그램이 중학교 자유학기제 프로그램 참여 학생들로 하여금 무대의상디자인 및 의상관련 진로를 알고 관심을 부여하는 데 성과가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 비롯하여 자유학기제의 취지에 맞는 다양한 디자인관련 교육 프로그램의 지속적인 개발을 기대한다.
