Based on archaeological materials(ancient tombs, communities and grave goods), this study looked into the relationship with Baekje when Mahan power in the Yeongsan river basin develops and changes. After the mid 3rd century, while Baekje grew into Maengju, jar coffins(Form 1․2) appeared in the Yeongsan river basin and trapezoid tombs developed. The relationship between Mahan power and Baekje appeared after King Geunchogo's conquest of the south in 369. King Geunchogo's conquest of the south is seen to be related to Baekje that expands the local government. But after the late 4th century, large jar coffins (form 3) and the enlargement of trapezoid tombs (horizontal expansion) showed its identity of Mahan power. It seems that at this time, Mahan power was not included in Baekje's direct control and was indirectly influenced by Baekje when Baekje got economic and political advantage in the exchange and negotiation relationship with Wa. After the late 5th century, an ancient tomb with a gigantic mound appeared in the Yeongsan river basin focusing on a heartland and new burial facilities, stone chamber tombs and keyhole-shaped tombs appeared as well. In the burial facilities, based on various classes' grave goods, it is confirmed that there were active exchanges and negotiations with various political powers. After the late 5th century, when Baekje expanded its influence to the south in the complicated international situation, Mahan power wanted to maintain its independent position while it had exchanges and negotiations with various political bodies including China, Gaya and Silla. Moreover, it seems that Mahan power competed internally to be a new and dominant partner of Baekje. At this time, Mahan power's relationship with Baekje turned to be subjugated compared to before, but it is considered that Mahan power tried to maintain and develop its identity (ancient tomb with a gigantic mound and grave goods). After the mid 6th century, miniaturized and standardize stone tombs were found in Bokamri tombs in Naju, which was a heartland in the Yeongsan river basin. Silver flower shaped diadem ornaments, crowns and belt ornaments that indicated one's social rank were excavated in Bokamri tombs and that means Mahan power was completely subordinate to Baekje. Even though Mahan power (power in Bokamri) was entirely subject to Baekje in the mid 6th century, it is understood that it kept the local character while it maintained its high position, built local styled-stone chambers (Bokamri style) and played roles to negotiate with Wa.
