As the scientific report of destruction of natural ecosystem since the late 20th century has spread, the movement to copy the image or function of natural organism due to the regression phenomenon to nature has been active. Such a trend has spread biomimicry which is the technology copying ecosystem and system of nature efficiently beyond merely aesthetic approach to nature. With this, the principle of Voronoi diagram which is a typical geometric pattern copying the form of nature has received attention. Recent make-up designs reflect various trends including social and cultural phenomenon, aesthetic consciousness, nature and environment and express various themes as an artistic area. Fantasy make up illustration which is to express artistic design with face and decollete adds aesthetic value as a visual art. This study aims to examine geometric characteristics and design cases of Voronoi diagram in the area of biomimicry and research fantasy make up illustration which can deliver messages to modern people. It is also designed to reinterpret biomimicry design of Voronoi diagram into fantasy make up illustration based on social and cultural trend, draw symbolism which can develop it to art for the coexistence of man and nature and develop a design which can enhance creative idea and application. This study investigated data of biomimicry and Voronoi diagram design, analyzed their expression characteristics and made fantasy make up illustration. As a result of the study, it was found that the characteristic factors such as representation and fusion expression of natural ecosystem images, illumination of relationship and geometric pattern use have been used as artistic and experimental motives of fantasy make up design and delivered symbolic messages.

20세기 후반 이후 자연생태계의 파괴에 대한 과학 적 보고가 확산되면서 자연으로의 회귀 증상으로 인 해 자연생물체가 가진 이미지나 기능을 모방하는 움 직임이 활발해지고 있다. 이러한 흐름은 자연을 단 순히 심미적으로 접근하는 것에서 더 나이가 자연의 생태구조와 체계를 효율적으로 모방하는 기술인 바 이오미미크리(biomimicry)를 확산시키고 있다. 이와 함께 자연의 형태를 모방하는 방식의 대표적인 기하 학적인 패턴인 보로노이 다이어그램(Voronoi diagram) 원리도 주목을 받고 있다. 최근 메이크업 디자인은 사회문화적 현상, 미의식, 자연과 환경 등 다양한 경향들을 반영하며 예술적인 영역으로 다양한 주제들을 표현하고 있다. 얼굴과 데콜테(decollete)를 대상으로 예술적인 디자인을 자유롭게 표현하는 판타지 메이크업 일러스트레이션 (fantasy make up illustration)은 시각예술로서 미 적 가치를 더하고 있다. 본 연구는 바이오미미크리 영역에서 보로노이 다 이어그램의 기하학 형태의 특성과 디자인 사례들을 살펴보고 현대인들에게 메시지를 전달할 수 있는 판 타지 메이크업 일러스트레이션을 연구하고자 하였다. 보로노이 형태의 바이오미미크리 디자인의 특성을 사회문화적 트렌드에 근거한 판타지 메이크업 일러 스트레이션으로 재해석하여 인간과 자연이 상호 공 존하는 예술로 발전시킬 수 있는 상징성을 도출하고 창의적 발상과 응용력을 높이는 디자인을 개발하는 데 목적을 두었다. 바이오미미크리와 보로노이 다이어그램 디자인에 관한 자료를 고찰하고 표현특성을 분석한 후 판타지 메이크업 일러스트레이션을 제작하였다. 연구결과 자연생태 이미지의 재현과 융합 표현, 관계의 조명, 기하학적 패턴 활용 등의 특징적 요소 들이 판타지 메이크업 디자인의 예술적이고 실험적 인 모티브로 활용되어 상징적인 메세지를 전달하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
