Ilwolobongdo is a kind of court decoration that was installed in the back of the Joseon dynasty that depicted the sun, moon and five peaks as its name suggests. Other names are Ilwoloakdo, Ilwolkonyundo, Oakdo, Obongdo, Obongbyeong, Ilwolobongbyeong, Obongsanbyeong. This figure means that there are a lot of cultural elements in Ilwolobongdo, and it shows various symbolic meanings. Understanding and analyzing the symbolic meaning of today's artworks is judged to be worthy of research in terms of establishing the identity of our culture superior in international society where culture becomes economic asset. Unfortunately, there are not many records and works of art in the current month of Ilwolobongdo. Because oriental colors are rooted in the Yin Yang and five elements philosophy, Ilwolobongdo's actual cases were examined and analyzed in form and color in the symbolic meaning of the five colors. As a result, Ilwolobongdo has a superior function as a tool to express symbolic meaning rather than the beauty of form and color itself. It is also shown that much of Ilwolobongdo uses five colors based on Yin Yang and five elements. Color analysis also found that the idea of Ilwolobongdo was analyzed in terms of the idea of positive and negative, and that colors were expressed in principle rather than the beauty of the colors themselves. As such, many parts of Ilwolobongdo found that colors were used to express symbolic meanings based on the idea of the Yin Yang and five elements.

일월오봉도(日月五峰圖)는 이름 그대로 해와 달과 다 섯 개의 산봉우리를 그려 넣은 조선시대 어좌(御座) 뒤편을 장식하던 궁중 장식화의 한 종류이다. 이칭 (異稱)으로 오악도, 오봉도, 일월오악도, 일월곤륜도, 오봉병, 일월오봉병, 오봉산병 이라고도 한다. 이렇게 여러 이름으로 불리는 이유는 일월오봉도가 여러 가 지 많은 문화요소를 지니고 있어 다양한 상징의미를 보여주고 있음을 의미하는 것이다. 오늘날 예술품들 의 상징의미를 이해하고 분석하는 것은, 문화가 경제 자산이 되는 국제사회에서 우수한 우리 문화의 정체 성 확립이라는 부분과 우수한 문화의 발전계승이라는 측면에서도 연구가치가 있다고 판단된다. 동양의 색채는 음양오행 사상에 뿌리를 두고 있으므 로 본 연구에서는 일월오봉도의 사례를 조사하고, 음 양오행 사상에 근거하여 형태와 색채를 나누어 분석 하였다. 그 결과 일월오봉도의 형태에서는 해와 달이 라는 상징적 오브제와 음영의 표현으로 좌우대칭 속 에서 비대칭을 이루고, 비대칭 속에서 대칭을 이루는 음양론의 사상을 표현하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 색채분석에서는 일월오봉도가 음양오행 사상으로 분 석할 수 있고, 색 자체의 아름다움보다는 색채를 오행 운용원리에 의하여 음양오행 사상을 표현하고 있음 또한 발견하였다. 결국, 조선시대의 색채사용은 색 자체의 아름다움보다는 음양오행 사상을 근거하여 상징의미표현의 도구로 색채를 이용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
