Yi Kwangsu’s writings are highly valued in early modern Korean literature. His writings have been consistently evaluated in either a positive or negative way. Since ‘jeong (情, affection)’ was the main qualification for modern literature in his theorization of literature, many studies have paid attention to the ‘feelings’ of his literature. As to the acquisition of modern subjectivity, he emphasized not only the need for reason, but also the need for affect, pathos, feeling, and emotion to be enlightened. Yi Kwangsu’s early writings disclose a contradiction that deviates from his modern project, even though he has been thought of as a perfect symbol of Korean modernism. In the process of leading enlightenmentism as a Korean intellectual, he showed non-normative feelings which could not be considered in keeping with normativity. In his workd there are traces of ‘queerness’ as unpredictability in ‘inappropriate feelings.’ In this way, this study aims to analyse love as an excessive pathos, leaking out from the normative structure of sensibility in modern Korea, through a re-reading of Yi Kwangsu’s “Yoon Kwang-ho.” The love depicted in the short story disturbs the way of reading modern Korean subjectivity as a hegemonic subject and shows the possibility for dismantling the hegemonic structure of heteronormative patriarchy.

한국 근대문학 초창기에 이광수의 문학이 갖는 위치는 절대적이며, 따라서 그의 문학에 대한 연구 역시 긍정적이든 부정적이든 지속해서 이루어져 왔다. 그중에서도 다수의 연구가 주목하는 것은 이광수 문학에 나타나는 ‘감정’이다. 왜냐하면 이광수의 문학론에서 근대문학의 핵심 자질로등장하는 개념이 ‘정情’이기 때문이다. 즉 이광수는 근대적 주체성을 획득하기 위한 방식으로서 이성만을 추구했던 것이 아니라 정동, 정념, 감정, 정서 또한 특정하게 계몽할 필요성을 강조했다. 그렇기에 이광수의 초기 단편에서는 계몽주의적 방향에 따라 형성되었던 감성 구조를 추적해볼 수 있다. 그리고 이 가운데 누구보다 완벽한 계몽주의자인 것처럼 보였던 이광수조차 근대적 기획에서 벗어난 일종의모순을 노출하고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 즉 그는 신지식인층으로서 계몽주의를 견인해가는 과정에서 오히려 정상성에 부합하지 않는 비규범적감정을 역설적으로 부각하게 된다. 그리고 이러한 부적절한 감정은 ‘퀴어성(queerness)’이라는 예상치 못한 또 다른 잠재성을 내포하기도 했다. 따라서 본 연구는 당대의 규범적인 감성 구조 바깥으로 새어 나오는 과잉된정념으로서의 사랑을 이광수의 ｢윤광호｣를 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 결론적으로 이러한 사랑은 한국의 근대 주체를 헤게모니적 주체로만 해석할 수없게끔 만들며, 당대의 남성중심적이고 이성애중심적인 지배 구조를 무화(無化)시킬 가능성 또한 시사한다.
