M-learning, an important part of E-learning, is being widely discussed in the field of education. However, although the use of mobile devices for language learning has caught the attention of an increasing number of researchers in recent years, research on Chinese learners’ usage patterns is still limited. This study investigated students of Chinese language and literature at a Korean university. A contextual inquiry was used to get a view of the entire usage pattern of Chinese learning, and in order to find out the potential needs of learners, models were developed based on the general data collected. Compared to other languages, the number of applications and quality of the content in Chinese is inadequate. Chinese learners in Korea who aimed to pass the HSK examination did not make good use of their smart phones. More users would purchase applications if there were more applications to match the goal of learning Chinese. This paper will contribute to the understanding of the status and usage of M-learning, thus helping researchers, Chinese-related educators, and future learners.

스마트폰 사용자의 증가 등 언어 학습 방식 및 환경의 변화에 따라 앱을 이용한 학습 방법 의 중요성은 더 커질 것으로 전망된다. 엠러닝은 이미 이슈가 되었고, 모바일 디바이스를 통한 중국어 학습은 많이 보급되어 있지만 이를 통한 중국어 학습 이용자 현황 연구가 부족한 상황 이다. 본 논문은 한국 소재 대학교 중어중문학과 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사와 심층면접을 통 하여 수집한 데이터를 바탕으로 사용자 분석을 하였다. 결과는 영어, 한국어 학습 등과 같은 언어에 비해서 앱의 양이나 콘텐츠의 질이 떨어진다 고 조사됐다. HSK 자격증은 6개 등급이 있는데, 앱을 사용해서 공부하는 중어중문학과 학생 들에게 각자의 수준에 맞게 앱을 제공해주지 못하고, 단순히 암기 위주의 형식으로만 구성되 어 있어서 스마트폰 엠러닝을 더욱 유용하게 사용할 수 없었다. 무료 학습 앱은 대부분 학습 자의 학습 단계에 맞춰서 학습 결과에 대한 평가와 피드백이 충분하지 않았다. 향후 중국어 자격시험 등의 좀 더 목적성에 맞는 앱을 제공한다면 이용자가 많아지겠고 유료 콘텐츠 소비 도 가능할 것이다. 중국어 학습자들은 더욱 세분화 된 서비스와 개개인의 요구 및 편의성을 높여줄 수 있는 앱을 원하고 있다. 본 논문은 스마트폰을 통한 언어 학습방법과 중국어와 관련된 교육자 및 학습자에게 현 시점의 현황과 이용 행태 파악에 대한 도움을 줄 수 있고, 어휘 학습 및 한자 학습 등 중국어 학습에 관련된 앱 개발 기술의 발전에도 기여 할 수 있는 등 활용범위가 넓다.
