This essay examines the aspects of teaching married immigrants how to use Korean honorifics and focuses on teaching materials. As one of the most prominent grammatical features of Korean language and simultaneously the main method of expressing politeness in terms of pragmatics, honorific language has been actively studied in various directions in Korean education. Nevertheless, this essay is very meaningful for setting the basic direction of teaching Korean honorifics to married immigrants, considering that the academic attempts at analyzing honorific language used in education for married immigrants have not yet been made in earnest. Chapter 2 discusses the issues to consider when teaching married immigrants how to use Korean honorifics, in relation to the honorific system and the characteristics of the learners group as married immigrants. The honorific system is investigated in terms of the methods of setting addressee honorific hierarchy and the factors of choosing subject honorifics, and the methods of setting object honorifics. The characteristics of the learners group are explored in terms of the current status of honorific use and the situations of honorific use which the learners have encountered. Chapter 3 suggests the methods of appropriate honorific use which reflects the characteristics of married immigrants, after examining in what way honorifics have been implemented in current textbooks for married immigrants, based on the issues discussed in Chapter 2. The situation of textbooks is surveyed in the two areas of honorific contents and textbook presentation methods. The honorific contents are investigated in terms of subject honorific, addressee honorific and honorific terms, and on the other hand, textbook presentation methods are investigated in terms of orders of presentation and methods of description. Based on this investigation, this essay attempts to propose the contents which should be dealt with in teaching honorifics according to the characteristics of married immigrants.

본 연구는 결혼 이민자를 대상으로 높임법 교육이 이루어지고 있는 양상을 교재를 중심으 로 살펴본 것이다. 높임법은 한국어의 가장 두드러진 문법적 특징 중 하나이면서 동시에 화용 적인 측면에서는 공손 표현의 주요 방식으로, 한국어 교육에서 다양한 방향에서 활발하게 연 구가 이루어졌다. 그렇지만 결혼 이민자들을 대상으로 한 연구는 아직 본격적으로 이루어지지 않고 있기에 본 연구는 결혼 이민자 대상 높임법 교육의 방향성 설정을 위한 기초 연구로서의 의미를 지닌다. 2장에서는 결혼 이민자를 대상으로 높임법 교육을 시행할 때 고려해야 할 쟁점을 높임법의 체계와 결혼 이민자라는 학습자 집단의 특성과 관련해서 고찰해 보았다. 높임법 체계는 상대 높임법 화계 설정 방식, 주체 높임법 결정 요인, 객체 높임법 설정 방식의 측면에서 살펴보고, 결혼 이민자라는 학습자 집단의 특성은 높임법 사용의 현황과 학습자들이 처한 높임법 사용 상황의 측면에서 살펴보았다. 3장에서는 2장에서 고찰한 쟁점 사항을 중심으로 결혼 이민자 대상 교재에서 높임법이 어 떤 모습으로 실현되고 있는지를 고찰해 본 후 결혼 이민자의 특성을 고려한 높임법 제시 방안 을 제안해 보았다. 교재의 현황은 높임법의 내용과 교재화 방식으로 나누어 살펴보았는데, 내 용적인 면은 주체 높임법, 상대 높임법, 어휘적 높임법 측면에서 고찰해 보고, 교재화 방식은 제시 단계와 기술 방식의 면에서 고찰해 보았다. 그리고 이를 기반으로 결혼 이민자들이 지닌 특성에 부합할 수 있도록 교재가 지녀야 할 방향성을 모색해 보았다.
