The purpose of this study is to examine what human beings are in Donghak ‘s thought while observing what is modern human being. It also explores the issue of being born into a new human being that can consciously and unconsciously self, and is no longer a passive being but which leads his life actively. The contents of this study were as follows. First, we discussed what modern human beings are. Next, I discussed the characteristics of modern human beings and attitudes of life in Western Existentialism. Finally, we discussed the possibility of modern human being and the moment of human birth in a new sense in the dynamic theory. The results of this study were as follows. I have found occasions that enable us to live as a human being, a modern human being, as a new being on Thougt of Donghak. Awareness of Suun’s Si-Cheng-Ju has made it possible to establish a new phase of human existence. In addition, Donghak showed that he should not stop in reestablishing his own status by self-awareness. I have been asked to treat and treat such other people, universal human beings, as being a dignified, free and subjective existence as a new phase. Modern Human was to practice the spirit of humanism.

이 연구의 목적은 근대적 인간이란 무엇인가라는 논의에 천착하면서 동학사상에 나타난 인간의 모습을 다룬다. 또한 자신을 의식하고 부정할 수 있으며, 그것으로부터 더 이상 수동적인 존재가 아니라 자신의 삶을 능동적으로이끌어가는 새로운 인간 존재로 탄생하는 문제를 탐색한다. 이 연구의 내용은 다음과 같았다. 먼저 근대적 인간이란 무엇인가에 대하여 논의했다. 다음으론 서양 실존주의 사상에서의 근대적 인간의 특징과 삶의 태도에 대하여 논의했다. 끝으로 동학사상 속에 근대적 인간의 가능성과새로운 의미에서의 인간 탄생의 계기가 있음을 다뤘다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같았다. 동학사상에서 새로운 존재로서의 인간, 근대적 인간으로서의 삶을 가능케 하는 계기들을 발견했다. 수운의 시천주를자각하는 것이 인간 존재에 대한 새로운 위상 정립을 가능하게 했다. 또한 동학에서는 인간 스스로의 자각에 의한 자신의 위상을 새롭게 정립하는 데에서그쳐서는 안 됨을 보여주었다. 다른 인간, 즉 보편적 인간 모두 새로운 위상으로서의 존엄하고 자유롭고 주체적인 존재임을 알고 그렇게 대하고 대우할 것을 요청했다. 진정한 의미의 근대적 인간은 사인여천의 정신을 담지하고 실천하는 것이었다.
